So i listen to streaming radio from shoutcast.com (plays in winamp) all day at work....today they are going silent though.

They are showing what it would be like w/out 'net radio! And promoting saveinternetradio.org

Apparently, congress could effectively make another stupid law by the end of this month which would mean internet radio has to pay massive royalties and would

therefore effectively go broke.

This sucks, i like my trance streaming 8 hours a day!

From what I have read the royalties would be higher than any of those sites profit.

Let me guess...another RIAA backed bill? Those people are idiots. How do they expect people to find new music groups if the only let you play the same 40 songs a month on the radio, and block out any other way of exploring your musical tastes?

I think the RIAA would be perfectly fine with that. I don't think they want people to find new groups to like. I think the record companies would love it if everyone listened to the same 10 groups all the time, because then they wouldn't have to take risks in determining what artists to promote and pour money into.

this truly sucks. i dont listen to internet radio myself, but was watching yesterdays "the screensavers" and were talking about it..

from what little i got out of the segment on it, this only affects the internet music stations.. not talk radio on the internet. the internet radio stations already pay the same licensing fees that normal radio stations pay... plus with this new law, they're going to have to pay this new fee, which is retroactive 3 yrs (i think). the guest on the screensavers said if he had to pay that fee, it'd be like $500,000 for himself..

this law doesnt seem very fair.
