I am only 33, so no.

Maybe when I get older I will watch that... and old repeats of Murder she wrote, golden girls, etc...

It's more than that. They hold big shows where people bring in their antiques, and then appraisers go around and analyze them to determine if they're real or fake, go over their history, and estimate a value. Some of the old junk people find in their attics are worth big money!

Do I LIKE to watch it? Not really, but my wife does, so if I'm bored with nothing else to do, they I will watch it from time to time.

I like to guess the value of things before the appraiser actually tells them...USUALLY, I'm within 20% or so...but sometimes, they shock the hell out of me...

I try to watch it every time I happen across it. You have to love the look on people's faces when they find out the thing they paid $15 for 10 years ago is worth $150K. Plus too, I can always dream that it's me. ;)

The testimonials are interesting. One guy said he went to an estate sale and asked the family if there was anything up in the attic. They hadn't bothered to look up there, but said anything he dragged down he could purchase. So he crawled around and found an old dusty box of books that he bought for $25. He took them home and found a first edition book by some author that was appraised at the roadshow for $10,000.

"We've had this table/dresser/picture in our family for 150 years."

"It's a fake, worth $150" :frown:

Its a crappy show, like the total opposite of top gear. A boring old english man that wears silly bow ties talks about crappy old furniture. zzzzzzz

Sometimes, but only when there's nothing else on. It's fun to watch people's reactions when they realize they paid $100 for something worth $100,000

If I'm flipping through the channels I'll watch a little bit. Sometimes the stories behind the antiques are interesting, a lot of the time the appraisals though are fucking ridiculous.

He is talking about the BBC version, which is akin to watching your parents have sex.Horrifying by anyone's standards outside of the UK. Obviously he has never seen the the flashy uptempo PBS version. Those Keno boys are so cute!

I like it a lot and have it on my tivo list.

Peace

Yeah, the PBS version is all right. If I am flipping through the channels I might stop and watch it for a few minutes, but I don't go out of my way to look for it.....

yup. I have watch both US and English ones. Just like to see it when folks have no idea what they really have. I remember 1 woman who bought a small table for $25 and the was able to sell it for $500,000. The look on her face was priceless when it was appraised for $250,000.

Also, ya might remember this little fiasco:

It's actually an interesting show even if you don't know anything about or care about antiques.

I'm only 27, but not only do I enjoy those shows now, I enjoyed them when I was a kid. Matlock too. I wonder how many people judge these shows without having watched a whole episode.

I only like the British version. They have shit from way way back when.

The Canadian and American versions are a bit meh. And the "insurance value" is confusing.
