Do you like Sriracha (asian spicy sauce)?

Well apparently if I try to quote I get an error message...

But @nakedfrog I had never tried sriracha and BBQ sauce until I saw your post and decided to give it a go. I approve 🙂 .

a Serious Eats food blog's rating of 30 hot sauces. No Sriracha, cause it's used more like an ingredient than a topping. What? But still probably a useful resource to discover a thing or two.

I might try some of the sauces on that list soon (I have BLiS Blast bookmarked to try next), but the store he linked to - Heat Hot Sauce - had some other hot sauces that caught my eye. I bought two milder sauces for starters, though I want to try more variety in heat in the near future.

Dr. Stadnyk's Habanero & Carrot is vinegary (much like Tabasco) with a mild to medium heat that isn't immediate but spreads and pleasantly lingers. The carrot flavor is present but subtle. I love both carrots and habanero and the color is vibrant, so this might actually be a staple sauce for me.

Heartbreaking Dawns' Riff Lord is less vinegary, instead being much more smoky and earthy. The turmeric flavor - though it probably doesn't use much turmeric, which is the last listed ingredient - stands out to me. I probably wouldn't use this sauce as much as Dr. Stadnyk's for general purpose, but I think it would work better for certain foods and dishes.

(if anyone wants to start an "official" hot sauce thread, I'll probably repost this there, as I'd like to hear more suggestions and will likely most my own mini reviews in the future)

El Yucateco Chile Habanero sauce is probably my go to sauce. I like it more than Siracha, and especially more than tabasco (too vinegary).

There is a sriracha included on the the list, but not Huy Fong, a different brand. The article is interesting, but leaves a lot to be desired. Valentina over Cholula? Not in my universe.
Very so in my universe. Cholula is very mild, both in taste and heat, it's practically tasteless to me. Valentina isn't very hot, but the taste is great, I love it with chicken breast, it's my favourite mild hot sauce.
Another thing I agree with the article is El Yucateco XXX, that's my number 1 hot sauce, awesome smoked habanero taste with no vinegar and artificial coloring, and it's got a good kick, on the upper range of my comfort level.

I have Sriracha at home, but I don't use it much, almost strictly with Asian food. It's more common for me to use it in restaurants often since it's often the only hot sauce there.

Funny, I was in the grocery store tonight and almost bought a bottle of Valentina. The stuff is dirt cheap. They sell big ass 34 oz bottles for something like $2, the smaller 12 oz for 98 cents. But then I thought: It will just take up counter space and then in two years I'll look at the bottle, realize that the only reason it's half full is that it has mostly evaporated, and I'll throw it out just like the last bottle.
