don't know much about his career back in britain, but so far i'd say he's done well for himself here across the pond.

he's a journalist, so he's deceitful and manipulative by nature, but he's definitely not a moron. you don't get to where he is by being a moron.

can't say I like him, but I do enjoy his cnn show, I've got nothing against him.

I don't have any feelings towards him personally.

I don't generally care for "interview" shows, though, so I have no interest in watching his CNN show (see also: Larry King, Oprah, etc)... even when I watch a show like Meet the Press, I usually fast forward past the interview portion and only watch the roundtable political discussion in the second half.

I don't like him, although more often than not I agreed with him on America's Got Talent.

Story behind that?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_2ZsMFY0fg

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2005/nov/20/newspaperformats.mirror

The Clarkson row started in 2000 when the Mirror obtained some paparazzi photographs of Clarkson snogging a woman who wasn't his wife. Morgan rang Clarkson for a comment and Clarkson begged him not to run the pictures, then said: 'Look, Piers, I'm going to tell you something now. I'm not capable of having an affair. You can ask my wife. I'm not physically capable.' Morgan claims that he was so moved by this plea, he went softer on the story than he'd normally have done. But then two years later Clarkson was papped kissing the same woman, and Morgan ran the story hard. Clarkson then punched him at the 2004 Press Awards in front of an admiring audience of journalists who were all rather disappointed that Morgan didn't hit back; his revenge came a few months later when he put Clarkson's 'not physically capable' quote in his book.

I love Clarkson, avid top gear fan, but honestly it seems like Piers Morgan was the gentleman in this exchange, and came out on top.

Jesus christ. How did he have a good career after that?

Same reason the now fired HP CEO was able to run a second company into the ground?

As for Morgan, he's a douche for the deceitful "journalism", but I haven't minded him much as Larry King's replacement. He seems capable and I'm willing to watch, just not run to watch it or think non-trashingly of him like Anderson Cooper.

he's a douche and it only took about five minutes of watching him interview someone to figure it out.

he's the guy that asked christine o'donnell about her masturbation practices and then was shocked that she cut off the interview

I heard that interview, he wasn't asking her about her masturbation practices, he was asking her about what she wrote in her book about the subject of masturbation and gay marriage and he asked her if she still held those views. It was actually pretty funny how much of a douche Christine O'Donnell came off as in the interview. She's a fucking nitwit anyway.

he asked her when the last time she masturbated was. that was when the interview started going downhill. before that question she was laughing and interacting, after that question she got combative.

Did you listen to that clip you quoted? Because nowhere in there did he ask her when the last time she masturbated was. He asked her if she has had lust in her heart and then she laughs and says let's not go down that road. Then he turned to the topic of gay marriage and that's when the interview started to go badly.

Honestly, I didn't think he asked her anything that was out of line.

He has a British accent which apparently trumps all of his shortcomings for the average American viewer/listener. It automatically makes him smart and insightful. US news outlets have been on a British douchebaggery trend lately. CNN and NPR being prime examples.

I hated how CNN replaced Larry King with this guy. Larry King has had some awesome interviews. This guy... not so much.

He's a Brit (just like the OP), so no. :hmm: j/k.

He manages to piss off some people he is interviewing by being so nosy (very natural for him) , most of them stop and leave. I think Larry King unintentionally did that too . I tend to watch the show if the interviewee seems to be an interesting/intriguing person.

"have you committed lust in your heart"

lust in your heart was a reference to her old MTV interview on masturbation.

he asked her if she masturbated.

She handled the entire interview badly. He was asking her about things she had written about in her book, which she was on there to promote, and things she had stated publicly.

I don't know about you but I wanted to hear what she had to say about gay marriage. What's the big deal? Answer the fucking question bitch! :D

The general consensus in the UK is that he is a horrible, manipulative, disgusting, dishonest, decietful moron. I was very very surprised that after his last job as editor of the Daily Mirror he was able to go to America and get work.

So what do you think of him?

he seems OK over here. I'm well aware of his past history, and I think that's why he had to flee.

:p

He's definitely turned around his image. or, rather, buried the past and re-invented himself.

How does Morgan come out looking like the bad guy in this situation? He got burned by not running the story the first time and the second time basically confirmed Clarkson was having an affair.

I don't care much for Morgan's show, but Larry King's interviews were really bad those last few years. It was so obvious he'd show up in the afternoon, be handed a stack of cards with the questions to ask, then they'd do the show. He wouldn't really do real follow up questions and he was known as the softball interviewer. Larry King is a real quality character, but he should have retired five years earlier than he did. The most recent special he did of a dinner with some celebs was actually pretty interesting too.

As I read it, it was that Morgan eventually published the fact that Clarkson has a limp dick in a later memoir, far removed the whole incident.

I think that's why he comes off as an ass, and was deservedly punched in the face....assuming I have the timing correct, of course.

Or maybe he published that info after being punched in the face. Even dickier move, if you ask me.
