I am looking for some driving school classes online to see if I would like it. I like the idea of having a cheaper car, saving a little more fuel and have more control. But the downsides are to actually get used to it.

How do you like manual cars?

Both my Tacoma and MR2 have manual transmissions..no complaints here.

I love having a 5 speed. All the cars I have owned have been 5spd. However, in stop and go traffic, especially in Seattle, automatic is great. We normally drive my GF's car when we go on long trips.

Im building my car its a 1974 Vw Bug that i converted into a Baja bug with a 3 inch lift, 31 inch tires, and 180hp stroker motor. Anyways its standard and its fun to drive. I love giving it a good rev at a stop light for some honeys or something haha. Also its more of an driving expeirence you dont get that bored.

Of course, I prefer a manual transmission. I am actually getting another 66 Mustang coupe real soon that will immediately have a 5 speed manual installed so I can drive it every day. I just can't handle the Lexus with the automatic transmission in it anymore.

My first car was a manual. I owned manual cars for over 10 years straight actually...kind of hoping to get another one in the coming years.

Love manual cars. My current car is a manual, and the "feeling" cannot be beat. You feel like you are so much more in control of the car. They feel faster (and are faster than there auto counterparts :p), you can get better gas mileage, and you can engine brake to help save on your brake wear. Plus it's an assurance that you will always have something more to do when you drive! :p

Get a manual if you don't plan to drive in traffic everyday. The learning curve is also easy.

Manuals are fun. However, if you live in LA and you are stuck in traffic up a large hill you will be bummed out. Believe me driving an automobile in a big city with an automatic is miserable but with a manual it will be much worse. Mind you I have driven both.
Its not like u want to drive a sports car (where a manual is part of the experience) so go for the auto if you will be driving in heavy traffic.

I learned on a manual and every car after that I went automatic. Manuals suck in the city.

I drove stick for a year, but didn't enjoy it. If I wasn't in a traffic-riddled area, I may have liked it more. `

Manuals really make the ride more interesting and fun. Personally, there is nothing like jacking the gears up going from 0-60 mph in a manual. :D That's why I drive mine...

Yep, like Clocker pointed out, if you have to drive in a lot of stop and go traffic to get to your job it gets real old to be shifting all the time.

The only way I will drive a manual again is if I get the new Shelby Cobra Mustang because that's all it comes with. :p

I drive a manual. Not in really heavy traffic like in some cities, but I do go through stop and go areas every day and it's not too much of a problem. If I had to do the whole car buying thing again I'd definitely still choose manual.

I like mine, but it all depends on the car. I see no reason for a family sedan or wagon to be a manual, and I know that on trucks an automatic has a higher towing capacity.

My Taurus SHO is a family sedan and I would not have it any other way than the 5 speed manual in it right now.

I love the 5 speed in my Civic. Yeah, a Civic is a gutless car, but it is sooo much more bearable with a standard than an automatic (I've had both). Might get a Scion TC in the next couple years. We'll see how it is with a larger engine. :D

I have no issues at all driving manual, but it does get old when you're in stop and go traffic for an hour.

manual is a MUST with a gutless car, lets you get the most out of your engine.
