Do you leave your BBQ propane tank in the open position?

I used to close my valve after each use. On my last tank I left it in the open position. It seemed to not last as long but I never smelled any gas.

When I'm done grilling, I only don't shut off the burners via the grill controls. With the burners still going, I reach down and close the valve on the propane tank. This lets the propane inside the grill run out and evacuate the lines. Once the flames go out, then I also turn the burner controls to an off position.

This is exactly what I do as well.

I leave it open, at least during the summer. I grill so often it would be a pain to reach underneath and turn it off.

you're right, it's grilling. :D
I always turn off the bottle. I've seen too many idiots who think they're 'grill masters' do their best to burn their campsite, house and, car down.

Real men don't BBQ with gas, they BBQ with cherry wood chopped from the forest in their backyard.

I close it but occasionally I forget. You can technically go without doing it but it's mostly a safety precaution. Even more important with natural gas as it's continuous.

I used to leave it open but now close it. I've noticed the gas lasts significantly longer now -- I probably have a slow leak in my system somewhere. I bet it's not that uncommon.

Close it. Otherwise you're putting faith in a rubber hose that you haven't inspected since parachute pants were in style.

Not since I did that once and lost a fresh tank of gas. BBQs are far less likely to not leak than the tank; close the valve.

You live at a campground? :hmm:

I camp regularly and converted all my appliances at home to propane. It's about a wash with natural gas as far as cost but, the big plus for me is being able to work on all my systems without having to call a plumber or get it inspected. I believe in inspections wholeheartedly but, do as I say not as I do. :)
