Do you know your tire's treadwear rating?

isnt it a number like 400 or something?

I was always told if you take the first two digits and double it thats how many thousand miles it should be good for

80k in my example

Yeah

Treadwear rating: "changemallthefvckingtime"

I drive like a madman on my yokohoma ultrasummersportsemislicks 🙂 Z-type

Sorry no... it's a comparitive number. A 200 SHOULD last twice as long as a 100 but only within a specific manufacturer. Because the way the test is run, there can be differences between makers. So one company's 200 rated tire may only be a 150 from another. So if you want to compare ratings across companies, look to the warranty as well. For example, MY Eagle GT-HR's are 440's with a 50K mile warranty - so 50000/4.4 (to find per 100 baseline) is 11363. But a set of Pirelli's I looked at for the Xterra had a 65K warranty with a 500 TW rating or 12500 per 100.

(editing for clarity)

Yes, no set of tires will last for 80k unless you're driving on ice...

Wrong, I've gotten 80K out of tires before. Potenzas they were.

But sure, I know my tire's treadwear rating.

So did I... And of stock BFG's Long Trail TA's. There's no mileage warranty on those at all... Gotten 50K on the 2nd set, and still close to 1/2 the tread depth there. A lot of it has to do with how and what you drive. Though in the Xterra's case, with it being a 4x4 that didn't help. But I do take care of it, including watching the tire pressure. The Xterras have a known problem with pulling to 1 side if the tire pressures are even slightly off.
