Do you know what does these files do in ICQ ???

I am constantly backing up my ICQ 2000b folder and copies it into another computer that I might be using. I just wanted to know which is the files that holds the username. I am enabling my history so transfering all the files through FTP server might take a while. Do you know what does these file do?

123123123.dat
123123123.idx
123123123.msg
123123123tmp.dat
123123123tmp.idx
sm123123123.dat

I've sucessfully restored my usernames by just restoring the 123123123.dat and sm123123123.dat
But 123123123.dat is already taking 2MB ...

Is there a better way to store your user database in ICQ ? Can I create a local ICQ server that stores my username (fat hope)

Thanks for any response

I just copy the whole ICQ folder when I format or what ever. Why bother, 5megs or what ever won't kill anyone.

My folder takes up 50 megs or so, it all comes down to how long your history is. I'd rather die then loose my ICQ history ...
Anyway, all your information, your contact list, history etc is stored in a subfolder of the ICQ dir. The folders name depends on the version of ICQ you're running. With 2000b, you need to copy the folder called "2000b", older versions often had a "DB" in the name.

I don't think there's another way to backup the contact list, and even less so the history. Both is stored locally, so setting up a local ICQ server (there's a Intranet ICQ server, BTW) wouldn't help.

I totally understand where the files are stored. The files that I've mentioned above came from the 2000b folder.

I need to know because I am constantly using other computer at other location, and I download my files through my ftp server.

So My total space is now about 10 MB, downloading 10MB is preety darn slow if you are on modem on another location.... so I need to know just the essential files that I need in order to get my contact... only the contact , no history, no settings whatsoever.

So, anybody knows which files are sufficient for restoring your contact list ?
