A friend of mine called me up on the phone a few minutes ago screaming about how I racked a few servers of his too far away from his switches. It went something like this:
Him: Dude, you're a fscking prick, you know that?
Me: What'd I do?
Him: you racked my servers too far away from the switch and I busted up my hand threading this cable through 4 racks and now I need to buy a longer cable.
Me: Why didn't you just use the patch panel?
Him: Wha?
Me: um...the black things at the top of the racks with lots of ethernet ports?
Him: You mean the cable holders?
I laughed so hard at that. but I couldn't blame him ( I shouldn't have assumed he knew how those things were setup). His IT guy got married and left him alone. I walked him through how the patch panels worked and how they're not there to hold your cables. Still chuckling about it to myself.
Anyone else have funny techie stories?
