Access your secret desktop folder

Your desktop is covered with open folders but you want to get to a desktop shortcut
that's buried under them without minimizing the folders.

How to? Simply click on the Start button and on Run, then type a period in the space and click on OK.

A new window will open, containing your desktop folders and shortcuts.

I love shortcuts

;)

Yea, takes me to the root, too.

As well it should, a single period in DOS means 'from here', so if you tell explorer to open ".", it interprets that as the root of the current drive.

typing ". " in the Run command opens my desktop. But why would I want to go through all that when I can just click the "minimize all" button???

Under Windows NT/2K/XP, that opens C:\

Under Windows 95/98/Me, that opens the Desktop.

But why bother when you can just press Win+D?

Stop prying eyes

Want to see a history of the documents you've recently been working on?
Click Start, then Documents. (Windows key plus D for GoPunk)

While it's handy to view this list, you may not want others to see it.
You can clear it of its contents, however.
Just remember that you'll no longer have access to it as well.
To do this in Windows Me, right-click a blank spot on your Taskbar, which will bring up a popup menu. Select Properties, then click the Advanced tab. Now simply click Clear, then OK.
In Windows 98, you also right-click a blank spot on your Taskbar and choose Properties,
but then you need to click on the Start Menu Programs tab.

Then just click the Clear button in the "Documents menu" section.

The fastest way to get to the desktop would be hitting the windows key + M and u go straight to the desktop without going through the run Prompt.

You are all missing the point

This opens a folder with the icons in it
The name of the game to me is eliminating having to grab for the mouse :)

How would I have to hit the mouse by pressing Win+D?
