Apparently my ITAL 101 class is almost a total immersion class. Lady is not going to stop speaking in Italian unless the world is ending. It's gonna be intense...

"Oh hey, to teach a foreign language I'll just speak totally in that language and not say a word of anything that anyone understands. They'll eventually get it!"

Sounds like a wonderful idea.

all foreign language classes are total immersion.

welcome to education.

yes, I know a bit of Italian. I was quite good while living over there, but most of that is gone.

I would get banned by the Italian mod, though, for speaking what is on my mind right now.

it works.

EIDT: well, it only works well when you use it. for 1 hour class and then you spend the rest of the week blathering in your own language...not so much.

Not in my experience.... not at all.

I don't see how it could possibly work.

Spout off some Italian at people that don't understand Italian and never tell them anything in their native language they do understand is not going to work.

If you don't know Italian, you can't "blather" in Italian during the one hour.

My spanish classes in HS were total immersion. The teacher pretty much required us to only speak in spanish throughout the class. I learned very well.

Those who didn't want to learn, they obviously did poorly.

My French HS classes were opposite of immersion. We spent a lot of time not speaking French. We would immediately get like, "Alright, so [French word] means [English word] in English. This means that.. Hey, guess what that means. Yep. Bananas!"

I liked the format though. It was easy to understand words. Right now I am using all my knowledge of French and Italian that I can remember to put together words she's doing. If Italian and French were completely different (Like Japanese is to French) then I would probably have been like, "wtf is she saying?"
