till I realized like half the people I know
do not know how to swim ...

Can you swim at least 100 feet in deep water over your head?
Can you tread water for at least a couple minutes ?

Yes and No. I can do all the styles and actually move but will sink after a couple of mins of trying.

How long of a period can you swim though? Do you swim for a few minutes then go to the side of the pool? Or can you just tread water forever?

I can float and swim for an extended time in deep water, but ppl say I look funny swimming.

I just can't stay afloat. No matter how hard I try I will just sink to the bottom like a rock. I think I'm just not built to swim, maybe my body is too dense.

Growing up in Florida, yes. I suspect a large percentage of homes in FL have a pool.

No, all body is designed to float at full breath in your lungs. Get a full breath of air in your body and let your body loose in water, you will notice you will start to float.

I love the water, can swim for hours and hours. I'm not very fast though, for some reason.

edit: I could tread water for a long time. Not actually forcefully swim(as in across a large lake or something) but it does NOT take very much energy to float and not drown.

Swimming a distance would be like an extensive exercise, and I'm out of shape.. "treading water", or floating.. doggy paddling.. I could do all day.
