Wouldn't it be wonderful if everything was just a matter of opinion and we could just dispense with the notion that anybody might actually know something. I'm sure, though, that's how things must look to you. How could it not?

I was wondering when you would get around to using that line. :D

Isn't there a rule against posting entire books?

Metrosexual... sounds like there is too much soy in our food products these days (soy is high in phytoestrogens).

The social reactionaries would describe my behavior as certainly queer but what the hell am I supposed to do? Just pick up the first pair I see and buy them outright as to protect my masculinity? Sorry, I have to like what I buy. What ever happened to male sophistication and refinement?

I certainly would not tell you that you have to change anything about what you do. You can do anything you want, it's a free world. If you're gay, so what, that's no business of mine. I just don't buy all this nonsense about a 'metrosexual', to me it's just another way of saying "homosexual, but that doesn't sound nice".

With regard to "refinement" and "sophistication", I guess one could define it any way they want to, but the reality is that the average man does not see the value in the "aesthetics" of Oneida vs Graves for grill thongs. Words like "sleek satin-nickel finish" do not come into play, unless you're talking about a car part or PC part ;) A man with normal testosterone levels would simply not care, and pick up the one that could do what it needed to do, and for the best price.......

I'll have to disagree. A piece of crap Jensen audio equipment does the exact same thing as any other (name of hi-fi equipment) here, and it's the best price. Before you say "well their sound quality isn't as good", sound reproduction, clarity, highs, and lows are aesthetics of audio equipment. Defining features of anything can be considered aesthetics if their base usage remains the same. Having a personal preference is far different from a "man with normal testosterone levels would simply not care". What about women? I'm being sexist when I say this, but any woman can put out, clean, cook, etc. (an extreme example, I apologize ahead of time) - so you're saying a normal man would pick any woman to be his wife without caring about the aesthetics of things?

Angry, calm down. It's not about the El Densos not having taste, it's that they are afraid to be who they really are. All over the world in every primitive culture the men are masters of self decoration, right up there with the women. Western society's idea of living is in a straight jacket. That's why we mass murder in huge wars. We're unhappy with our lives. Our true selves are almost completely repressed.

My name is Angry and everyone assumes I'm angry all the time :) Just an innocent question to Tagej. But yes, I agree about people being afraid of who they really are. Our culture forces us to try to fit into a mold

You know, I bet if someone posted calling an Imac the same as everyone's personally built rig, we'd see a lot of the self-declared red-blooded males here crying and screaming like sissies. But hey, they both run basic applications, and get on the internet, right? While I hate relativism, there's nothing wrong with someone else having a different set of tastes. Although I will say that the term itself is really inane, what does a person's taste in fashion, health, and shopping have to do with sexuality?

It's just got to be culturally OK and the guys can act like queers all they want. Can you imagine being such a pussies about a cars. Check my rod, Charley, it it as hard as yours? Look at those pistons, would ya. Let me hold um PLEASE.

Machfive,
The amount of homophobia on this board is hysterical. So you don't think it's right for straight man to have (stereotypically) female interests?

You might want to invest in a reading course or two. Just where did I say it wasn't "right" for a man to have female interests? I said the average male does not have those interests, I didn't say they weren't "right". Further, you jump to conclusions about homophobia......

If that's not homophobic bigotry what is it? The assumptions are pretty preposterous.

With regard to "refinement" and "sophistication", I guess one could define it any way they want to, (WHY? DEFINITIONS ARE IMPORTANT AND SOME ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS) but the reality is (SAYS WHO? YOU?) that the average man (YOU KNOW WHAT ATHE AVERAGE MAN IS LIKE? HOW?) does not see the value in the "aesthetics" of Oneida vs Graves for grill thongs. (PURE OPINION) Words like "sleek satin-nickel finish" do not come into play, (YOU ARE PRIVY TO THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF EVERY HUMAN NALE SO YOU CAN MAKE THIS CLAIM?) unless you're talking about a car part or PC part(WHAT ARROGANCE) A man with normal testosterone levels would simply not care, (AHAHAHAHAHAHA, YOU'VE DONE SCIENTIFIC MEDICAL STUDIES OF TESTOSTERONE LEVELS AND PRODUCT SELECTION? RIGHT!) and pick up the one that could do what it needed to do, and for the best price.......(MORE STEREOTYPICAL BUNK)

THIS IS REALLY SAD.

typical moonbeam nonsense.

why not constantly utter gibberish and nonsense, OH Wait that IS what you do.

Do you know any metrosexuals? Or are you a metrosexual?

THAT is the topic at hand and IT IS THE TOPIC at hand.

What Moonbeam says always makes sense. I have no idea how you can completely dismiss it... I guess you could just be stupid.

haha no kidding... I miss the Motley crue, g&r wild days of rock, whiskey and women.

Anyway this whole metro sexual thing seems wasteful finacially and no fun. I hate shopping, I hate multiple styles of cothing and fashion, I hate buying anything that projects a yuppie image and serves no utilitarian purpose.

On the other hand I like quality...Snapon tools, Real whisky from scottland, remingtonarms, granite counter tops, Real hardwood furniture not that pressboard crap, good cookware and knives...etc. but all serve a utilitarian purpose and last a long time because I'm really rough on things.

Then on the other other hand I cried when watching Lang Lang play last night or watch great performances in any sport.

I guess I'm in between. Or maybe I just don't give a hoot and do what feels right..so can he.

What is "metrosexual" about Bruno Magli shoes?? I bought a pair at an outlet for $125 (original price was near $300), and I can easily say that they are the finest shoes I have ever worn. The only problem is that they are so comfortable that I forget that I'm wearing dress shoes.

Anyway, the amusing part about supposedly masculine and feminine activities is that there are both women AND GAY MEN who enjoy what are thought of as masculine activities. I bet there are more than a few gay guys out there with muscle cars, expensive home theater systems, and state of the art gaming computer systems. Is that like the gay version of a metrosexual? ;)

There's nothing wrong with being a gentleman... you can still be a "man's man" while doing so.

I like nice clothes, knowing how to look professional and dress well for the girls. Sharp-dressed man?? Yeah... I'd rather not be "gigantic slob"

But then again, I can't talk too long about fashion, inane conversations about celebrities and whatnot before the sudden urge to talk about ultraviolence , hot girls, and of course cars and motorsports...

OT..
Richard Clark has had an $10,000 amplifier challenge for anyone who can succesfully pass an a/b test between any two amps for years now... You pick em a Jensen vs. Krell is fine...Many have tried no ones ever won.

Sounds like you might be 10K richer:)
