Oh god no. I tried it but the run was agonizing. Maybe if I stuck with it longer but I like running 2-3 after work as it helps me decompress

Second one takes a lot longer.

I think the minimum number of reps is supposed to be 3

I work out & run after work. For about a year I did it before work, but it got to be real hard to get up so early.

I go sometimes before (5:30 AM) and sometimes after depending on weather and energy level when I wake up. I've found it doesn't make much of a difference on my level of alertness. This could be because regardless of whether I run, I have to walk to the transit stop and then I stand for 30 minutes on the train and then walk to work from the last transit stop, so I get a little morning movement in regardless of whether I run or not.

My workday starts at 3:00 pm, so I got enough time to bike before work. I don't like jogging/running.

YMMV, but generally I'd say run before eating if you are doing it straight out of bed. Less likely to go wrong that way.

I run a few days a week, but after work I do it. I wake up at 6am, so getting up at 4:30 is a no go for me.
On a side note, I did something ridiculous this last Friday. I wanted to find a way to strengthen my legs without going to the gym, so I warmed up by jogging a mile and then I did walking lunges for a whole 1/4 mile, or 1 lap around the track. I still can't walk right.

About 3-4x a week I will run a 5K. Only on the treadmill in the summer (I live in FL).

Usually do about 10 min of "warmup" fast walking type stuff then run the 5k, 25-30min, and then cooldown another 10 min of walking. Usually equals out to 4.25-4.5 miles total.

Edit: Yes it's always before work, if I wait until later I never do it. Plus I seem to do better before I eat breakfast.

Too much running and jogging is not good for your joints. It happens with a lot of people.

I personally think brisk walking, swimming, bicycling are all better alternatives.

Walking fast is actually pretty good. Try doing it for a few miles with big hills and then tell me walking doesn't do anything. Burns like bitches.

I would swim 2-3KM if i had a pool, but I would do it in the evening after work.
Running sucks.

Also, Before work is when I sleep. I wake my ass up by like 8:15 AM. That is not a time for humans to be awake! Thats like 1 hour after I start getting tired at night.

Yes, fast walking is a very good exercise. But it requires more time than running, so some people prefer the latter. But running, esp on hard surfaces, is quite detrimental to your joints. The human body has not evolved to run or jog on hard surfaces.

I go to gym 2 times a week in the morning but it is like a torture. To do that before work I need to wake up at 6 so when I come to work at 9 I am already tired. And by lunch time I am totally done.

Wake up at 5 and either do burpees, swim, or weights before the kids get up /going to work. This morning is a bit dicey because I was up late last night. Still trying to wake up fully.

I heard it is actually beneficial to jog before you start your day. Not sure how valid that is, but I am planning to do that soon.

Though do I jog before I eat breakfast or after? 0.0

I like to exercise before I start my day for a couple reasons:

1. It gives me energy & gets me pumped up for the day - I kind of drag around all morning otherwise.

2. I get distracted easily, so if I don't do it first thing, it doesn't happen. Some people have the self-discipline to hit the gym or workout whenever they decide to, but I don't - I just have to wake up & do it, or not do it at all.

Personally I exercise before breakfast. Some people do a before & after meal, but I don't feel too good exercising having just eaten.

The big key is going to bed at a reasonable hour. If you're too tired & have to fight yourself to go out & exercise every morning, it's going to be hard to keep it going long-term, you know?

I'm fat. I am 6 foot, 252 lbs. About 5 weeks ago, my wife and I decided we wanted to try a 5k in october. We normally get up at 6:15 to get ready for work. Now we get up at 5:30 and go to the local middle school track to walk/jog/run. At first, I could run about 1/4 of a lap before I had to stop. It was super painful and I had horrible shin splints. Today I went 1.5 miles running hard and jogging. I got my runner's high and had no leg pain. It felt good. I ended up doing 2.75 miles in about 34 minutes which is pretty good for me. My goal is to be able to do 4-5 miles of running and jogging and I'm a long way off but am getting there. I have friends who do half marathons and would love to be in that kind of shape.

And yes, it feels good to do this before work. We get to the track before the sun comes up and its beautiful to see the sun rise and get a workout in.

Running and walking generate about the same overall impact, and running doesn't cause degenerative joint disorders like arthritis unless you are pre-disposed.

Kids have stopped me from being active. I drop them off and pick them up from daycare before/after work. I can't stand the thought of leaving them in that germ tank any longer than I have to.
