Shipping insurance protects the seller, not the buyer.

If I recall correctly, eBay used to allow sellers to give the buyer the option of paying for insurance back then. Once the seller hands off to the courier, the seller's obligation was complete.

We always did delivery confirmation + signature required for stuff like that.

Don't they teach you this in school? Seriously. I learned how to format an address and that a return address was required when I was in grade school. They also told me why.
yeah but its still fresh in your mind.....a year later in 4th grade...
