Do you have XP windows update problems?

Lately, when I use Windows Update to add critical files, it goes through the motions and when it?s done the files didn?t get added. Last night I supposedly added the 811493 Security Update (Windows XP). This morning I checked update again and it was still shown in critical updates. How many times do you have to add these things before they take?
