Do you have VoIP?

I just use a cell right now, but I think a landline might be useful so I don't chew through my minutes while waiting on hold. If you have a VoIP setup like Vonage, please comment on it - good, bad, etc.

vonage + comcast = no good (call quality, i often have to yell into the fone for other party to hear cause upspeed is wack)

Ooh, thanks for the heads up.. I'm running Comcast cable in my apartment, but they don't offer phone services where I live yet 😛

We love Vonage. Use it to keep in touch with friends and family back home. With virtual numbers (2nd number to the same line) we can have a phone number back there too so they don't pay long distance either.

With the referral program, we haven't paid a phone bill in months and it will be another 18+ until we run out of credit.

I'd weigh in, but I'm on a Canada-only provider (Primus)

CDN$25/mo = unlimited in north america 🙂

Took them a f***ing age to send me the hardware, but haven't had any trouble since then.

same i was gonna get voip iwth comcast

Comcast + Vonage here too. I would say 75% of my calls are normal quality, 20% slightly echoed, and 5% delayed/echoed so bad I have to re-call. It was definitely good enough to dump my phone carrier for good.

Does Comcast offer VOIP in your area? I wonder if the problems you are having then have to do with QOS settings that Comcast maybe using..

I imagine the best VoIP in theory would be the one your cable operator provides directly, since they can manage QoS on their end and ensure that your voice bandwidth is not affected by your data bandwidth or vice versa. In practice, however, I'm not sure if cable operators carry their voice packets on a separate stream, or if its handled through your regular broadband connection.

vonage + 6MB road runner kicks ass...
24 bucks for unlimited US/Canada long distance.

and better than my SWB land line quality..
will not be giving SWB any more cash
EVER

Tack another one up for sunrocket. Their annual deal for $16.58 and free phones is the best deal I found nad they are very customer oriented so their policies are very favorable. Good luck.

Vonage and Cox = Fantastic

I am presently awaiting for Cox to provide VOIP (it is coming but I don't know when), because it will be a long time before Vonage gets local numbers in my area and I want to drop my Sprint POTS (which sucks).

If Cox is like TimeWarner they will rape you on it...

$45 a month for VoIP

sunrocket and insightbb = fantastic

i tried vonage and everywhere.net, they were.....ok
customer service sucked and the service wasn't as good as sunrocket (sunrocket has good customer service)

I hade Vonage for 14.99/mo. for about a year. Worked pretty good on my Comcast connection.

We stopped using it b/c we never made calls from home. My company pays for our Verizon Wireless service, so we use that 100% now.
