Do you have to reformat with a new rig?

Generally yes, but you can get around it without doing so by uninstalling all drivers and changing the ide controller to a standard pci ide controller. but the way i see it, if you are going a new rig, may as well start fresh

Well it's actually my friends rig, and he has lots of files that he would prefer not to lose. Mostly FS9 payware. So reformating is the LAST OPTION. Right now he can't get the rig to load to windows, and I think it is because of the old drivers.

The thing is, the old computer is a Dell, so I don't know if he will be able to repair his existing installation of Windows.
