Do You Have To Have PC133 Ram For A 133MHz BUS CPU.

I'm Looking At Buying An ASUS CUSL2 Motherboard And A P-3 800MHz EB CPU 133MHz Bus. Do I Need To Buy PC133 Ram Or Can I Still Use My PC100 SDRAM CAS2?

If your PC100 RAM is of good quality, it will probably run at 133MHz just fine. I'd give it a try. If it runs unstability (or doesn't work at all) you'll probably need some new PC133 RAM.

of course, if you don't want to spend the extra money on ram, you can always set your CUSL2 to run at a fsb of 133, but with ram at 100.

This is, of course, if it doesn't work at 133. 🙂

Does the CUSL2 allow asynchronous FSB and memory timings? I though it was a feature intorduced on newer AMD chipsets? apologies, i've never associated with that MB before.

I bought a stick of generic PC100 128MB last year from TranscendPC for $88. It was sold as "CAS3 PC100", but it goes up to 111 @ CAS2, and does 139@CAS3.

It's some good stuff; worth the money..

The VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset (designed for Intel-based systems) supports asynchronous memory timings as well. It's not just limited to their Athlon chipsets.
