Do you HAVE to have a cooler for your HD?

I recently bought a seagate barracuda 80gb hd, and i keep seeing people with these hard drive cooler things, do i HAVE to have one? i am pretty sure i don't have one in my comp right now.

You prolly don't need a cooler unless you're running a 10K+ RPM drive.

Not neccessary unless your case temp gets really hot. If it were neccessary there would be labels and warnings and stuff on the hard drive not to be used unless properly cooled.

The only time I would even consider it is if I was running >= 10K RPM drives, & multiples at that.

take the ricer way out, you don't need to cool it, just put a couple stickers on it and it will drop a few degrees right there.

you know "notfred" usually a lot of OEM stuff does come bare, so i was just assuming i might need one, did you take your medicene tonight?

I'm running/using one, but not really cuz I need it (only 7200RPM, one other 5400 RPM drive), but mainly cuz I have open bays, and I want to keep the HD in good condition. Assuming that keeping it cooler will give it a longer life.........hey, i can be optimistic. ^_^

Do you need it? No. I use one on each of my drives anyway.
