Do you have to be 17 to see an unrated movie in theatres?

My friend and I want to go see the Aristocrats tonight, as it is showing in our local theatre, but we're 16, and since R/NC-17 movies require you to be 17, is this the same with unrated movies? Or is it done by theatre policy?

Neither have I.

Are you talking about the AristocRats or the Aristocats (no R). Haven't seen or heard of the former. The latter is a Disney movie which is rated G.

Its not rated, so there are no restrictions on it.I would assume its up to the theater who they let in.

They don't show movies that are unrated.

Movies that are advertised as not yet rated are pending approval from the MPAA

It is most likely going to be R for language.

Nope, this movie is unrated for sure. The theatre is a small, local indie theatre that mainly attracts the college crowd (Princeton).

Yes, they do for various reasons.

Usually it is to avoid an NC-17 rating.

To the OP: Policy is left up to the theatre, you would have to check with them.

Whether or not you get into any movie is left up to the theater. Most all just happen to not let anyone under 17 into R rated movies. It's not illegal to sell any tickets to kids (I'm guessing porn theaters might be different).

This was a few years ago. I was 16.

Four friends of mine and me went to see the Matrix (one of them) and one of the kids mom came to "watch the movie with us". She bought a ticket, and was gonna take us to the theatre, then leave. The ticket taker said she needed to see birth certificates proving that she was our parent. WTF?

We ended up sneaking in anyway. All was good until halfway through the movie when 2 cops came in and escorted us out of the theatre. They told us they could arrest us, btu gave us a warning instead. Movie theatre refused to refund us and "banned" us from the theatre.

Argh.

When I was 13 I wanted to see Barbarello at the theater and they wouldn't let me in. I asked if my mother said it was OK would they let me in. Got my Mom on the phone and she told them if I wanted to see it, it was fine by her. I got to see the movie. boobies!

Uhh who caries a birth cert with them to prove that...

What I used to do is... (did it only a couple times)
I bought a ticket once to go see a movie that they would let me into for example a PG-13 movie and then walk into the R rated movie but, sometimes they have the ushers waiting by the doors checking tickets. So after like a week or two after no one comes to see the movie anymore there are no more ushers.
