k, my mind hurts. Engagement, is saying you are 'engaged' (An engagement is an agreement by a couple to enter into marriage at some future time) to be married. So if you are asking the father, you are asking about marriage. No father is going to be like 'yes you can be engaged, but no you can't marry my daughter'.
