Do you think there is only one company manufacturing all those magnets? And if there is, how rich do you think they are? I think it's funny (or maybe pathetic) that people won't put forth the effort to put up a real ribbon. They best they can do is a fake ribbon magnet.

i didn't know where they came from til last week, when i saw them at walmart. i didn't like the ones they had. today while buying some matte finish at AC Moore, i saw the small ones at the cashier to i picked one up.

anyway, looks like i am a minority here.

No, not everyone, but I'd be willing to bet a HUGE percentage are. Like I mentioned with the flag thing before, people put them all over their car, and when they'd fall off or get ripped to shreds, they wouldn't give a sh!t. I just see the same thing happening with these ribbons.

i thought about that too when i initially saw them being sold at walmart. i was wondering if any portion of the $2 they charge for the magnet would actually go to support the troops. i figured it was pure profit for whoever is manufacturing them so i didn't want to buy one.

Meh.. not a fair or accurate assessment.

Bullsh!t, where's everyone's flag/patriotism now? There was a huge rash of it right after 9/11 and when everyone's attention was eventually lost on that situation, everyones outward patriotism dwindled. If you're going to support your country, do it. Don't do it just because it makes you feel good about yourself since everyone else is doing it.

spanky, this isn't a dig on you, and I'm not trying to threadcrap...

No. It's not that I wouldn't, but it seems to be more of a fad than holding actual meaning to the people who have them.

There's a guy I work with who goes to the car wash by his house, and picks 4-5 of them out a day. I think he realized how pathetic that was as he was saying it. :D

well i do agree with you, that there is a percentage of ppl who buy one just becuz everyone else is. some ppl are also doing it just for cosmetic reasons (they might think it looks cute). but anyway, the point of the thread was to look for yes/no answers. flame wars... maybe later :p

No, I don't need a ribbon to remind myself and others that I support the military. I already know I do and I don't care if other people know it.
