Do you have lightning bugs where you live?

Driving home the other night and noticed some of my first lightning bugs of the year. My wife is still enamored by them because where she grew up (Black Hills, SD) they didn't have them. I just think they are cool. Bugs with blinking butts are neat 🙂

We have them in Iowa. How many other parts of the country have them?

I thought most of the country had them too, that's why I was shocked when my wife hadn't really ever seen them before. Must have been an elevation thing. Her area was sitting at about 5800 feet above sea level.

😕

We do... 🙂

I live in the same city.. They scare my nieces to death though.. I guess Arkansas don't have them.

Really? That's another cool about lightning bugs....one of the very few bugs out there that don't bite/sting bug the hell out of you.

None in Oregon, but where I grew up (Ind. and Mo.) we did.

I drove back to Mo. last Aug. and got to see some for the first time in over 20 years.

Though it DID seem there were a lot fewer there NOW than when I was living there in the 60-70's.

Used to be a field across from my grandma's (Derry, NH) where you could go out there'd be hundreds of 'em...

Here (Suck Town, Louisiana) has very few...

Suck Town? :Q 😀

I used to live in a rural southeastern village in Ohio... and they were all over the place! It was pretty cool.

A year ago I moved to Columbus. I still haven't seen any this year.
