Do you have DirecTV and their new HD Reciever (black case)?

I recently upgraded my DirecTV service to their Plus HD DVR package which comes with that new HD DVR Reciever with the black casing. My problem is that after about a month or so I noticed that it would seem to lose signal but only for the HD channels.

At first, I thought that this was truly a signal issue and I know that HD programming is a lot more data to transmit so it made sense that it would mostly effect those channels. However, I came to find out that resetting the Receiver and letting it reboot solves this problem. That suggests that the problem is not signal related. After calling DirecTV to inquire about this issue they told me that 80% of the problems are resolved by resetting the receiver which appears to be true in my case. This would not normally be a problem except that I am finding it needs to be reset about every other day.

What I want to know from ATOT is who has this same receiver and do you need to reset it as often as I do in order to avoid this problem? I am considering calling and complaining but I want to get a better idea of whether or not this issue is common or not first.

I'm actually getting ready to call and complain about the exact same problem. My three HR-21 receivers have been getting progressively worse about needing to reset them. I can't even record local HD channels with any confidence that it will actually record.

My friend that also has a HR21 receiver hasn't had this problem when I asked him about it though.

The last few days I've noticed my local channel HD feeds would not show anything. I'd change the channel to the OTA equivalent and change it back to the DTV channel, then I'd have a picture.

Same here, or with my folk's HD receiver rather. Started about a month ago. Sometimes it appears to completely lock up. Reboot clears it for a few days to a week.

I just got one yesterday. Haven't noticed that issue. I did notice that the sound was cutting out on some channels. We reset it and it is ok so far.

Hmmm more common of an issue than I suspected I guess. That means I am definitely calling. I really hope this is a manufacturing issue or something I can fix myself with some guidance. It would really suck if this problem turns out to be a design defect of some kind. If it is then I just know that they will never fess up to it and I will have to wait for them to release a model or software update which fixes it. :(

Check out dbstalk.com

They would be more likely be able to help. They have procedures to reformat the receiver and that might fix your issues.

I had about 8 months of good service. This just started recently for me and apears to be the same with others. My guess would be something screwy with the last firmware update it got not too long ago.

I got the new receiver and also upgraded the dish. The problem that I had was they didn't align the dish very good. I had to have them come back out and move it and get it aligned good. Reception has been great for the most part. I've had to reset the receiver twice when the speed channel (HD) started to have problems (voice might be there, but picture froze). But with a reset, it has been working good for a while.

Is your's connected to the net via the Ethernet port? I seem to recall the last upgrade it wanted to do required a connection for the video on demand. It was shortly after that it started having problems.
