Do you have Coil Whine on your E1505?

Coil Whine is the high-pitched sound that comes out of the laptop. Not from the Harddrive or CPU fan. My Logitech MX518 has the same sound character, however it is quieter.

The Coil Whine seems to only go away completely when the laptop is processing some sort of sound file. The speakers can be muted, unmuted; and the coil noise is gone. When the sound file ceases, the coil whine returns immediately.

During any other use, the coil whine can alter with processor usage. It is variable when the laptop is on battery alone, or power cable alone. When the laptop is on battery and power cable, the coil whine is at a constant maximum loudness. I have not tried playing a sound file with the laptop plugged in with the battery also plugged in yet.

Has anybody else experienced this coil whine and have found a better "fix".

For those of you who checked "I have not" are you able to hear the high-pitched noise that TV's give off (~14khz)? This coil whine is probably around the 16khz range and many people's hearing is not sensitive in this area. Unfortunately/Fortunately, my hearing is very sensitive.

Isn't the noise from the inverter? I have a couple of Dell laptops, not the E1505 though, and haven't had a problem. Although the old one had some really loud fans. Actually I think Apple's laptops are the worst for whining, just like their users. 😉

i have the previous generation inspiron 6000 (don't think there's too much difference aside from CPU + GPU)...but I do notice horrible sound interference when I plug in headphones. dunno if that's considered coil whine or bad EMI reduction, but it is there.

YES! I'm getting it on my E1505 (got it last month) and it drives me nuts. It's louder than any other whine that I get around my main puter or TV. I haven't tried muting the sound to see if it will go away. I will check later. I'm not overly sensitive but the whine from my laptop gets so bad that I get nauseous everytime I get it and have to shut down my laptop for some peace.

I muted/unmuted the speakers and it didn't go away. Also played a song file, but the didn't seem to make it go aawy either. It's plugged in atm, but I was still gettin the noise the other day in class on battery. I was watching a DVD last night and I wasn't getting it afiak, although I was wearing headphones for the better part of the time.
