Hi Guys. Thinking of buying the Antec 300 case HERE

1. It says it comes with 'Blue LED' lighted case fans. Is it possible to 'disable' these lights. It would be VERY distracting to me. Can I 'pop them off' the fan. Or simply cut them off (without electrocuting myself of course.... lol

2. Does it come with a bag of stand off screws, HD screws etc?

3. Is it a 'tool-less' case? i.e. Does it have clip on HD rails etc.

4. Can I take the top case fan and set it as an intake fan in the front of the box? I have a 80MM fan I'll put on top.

1) You can probably tape over them with electrical tape. IIRC the fans were black plastic, not clear, so once taped you won't see a thing.

2) Yes. All new cases normally come with the required screws/standoffs.

3) No. I think Antec includes thumbscrews for some things, but drives screw in normally. Don't sweat it though. You just need a #2 screwdriver (probably the most common type) and you're good. Besides, "toolless" cases are almost always not 100% toolless and require tools for something or other for a full assembly (usually motherboard/PSU/fans). Commonly people associate "toolless" with not having to use a screwdriver to install add-in cards and drives, but what does that matter if you already have to use the same screwdriver to install the motherboard, etc? Personally, I associate "toolless" with "crappy loose mounting." :p I do admit that I've seen decent toolless mechanisms, but they're the exception, not the rule.

4) You can do what you want with the fans, as long as they fit and your system doesn't overheat.

Yeah the top fan is a 140, and I don't even know if you can take it off. For the Antec 900, the Big Boy 200m on top can't be removed very easily...Yes, the case comes with standoffs, and snip the wire for the LED, and no, it isn't tool-less. But nonetheless, it's a great case.

The top fan is a 140mm, it comes out like any normal case fan. 4 fan screws hold it in place.

The 300 that comes with the blue LED fans is the illusion subtype. Same case, just comes with 2(or 3?) extra fans. The stock fans on it sucks IMO. I'd switch them out for better quality fans.

Antec includes thumbscrews for the hard drives. expansion slots and optical drives are screwed in with normal screws.

And yes, the front and side fan mounts are for 120mm fans.

Has anyone installed the optional front 120mm fans?

I bought a 120mm fan and trying to find where I can screw it in on the front of the case. Not sure how Antec intendeds this fan to attach? I insert it into the front 'cage door' but I cannot screw it onto the door. Do I just shut the door, and press a hard drive right up against the fan so it won't move? Doesn't sound very secure to me...

Look at the Antec 300 Illusion. I haven't put any in the 300 I worked on, but for every other case, usually you take the front panel off (look around the edges of the front inside the case for clips, screws, etc) and you screw it%2

One last question (I hope). The case is a little more cramped than I was hoping for. Not terrible I think (case/CPU temps will tell me eventually).

But how should I mount the power supply? There is about quarter inch clearance from the bottom of the case to where the power supply sits. A sales guy @ Microcenter told me to mount it with the power supply fan pointing up into the case?? I'd rather have the exhaust fan pointing down so, but would the little/no clearance be a problem?

Thoughts?

If you place the fan down against the bottom of the case, it will likely starve for air...
Overheat the PS components...
Kill the PS and possibly take out the MB or maybe more...
But you do whatever you want, it's your build. :sneaky:

Your PSU will overheat. If it decides to create an atomic explosion within the walls of your case, it will not go alone =/. If you mod it a bit, dremel a few holes here 'n there, you'll fix the cramped space. I finished one up for a friend the other day. and it looks fine.

I decided to have the vent up into the case, and not have the PS fan pointed down to nothing and no space to 'breath.'

I also installed a front mounted Antec 120mm fan. get the feeling it is overkill though...

More airflow is never overkill, though it will create more dust...My Antec 900 is building up quick dust on the front grills, from the two fans there. If anything, you can install a fan on the side as an exhaust, etc.
