I was playing around with a spare motherboard I had, its an Asus A7V333 Revision 1.01 in any case, i managed to pull off one of the chips, and i don't know which is pin 1, so I don't know which way to place it back into the motherboard, i THINK based on how the pins were bent up it goes in one way, but I'd like to be sure before I power this sucker up....so anyone out there feel nice enough to either take a pic, or look at it and tell me how this chip goes in?

my camera is broken at the moment, so lets practice my adjectives.

If you look at the motherboard and the PCI slots are on your left, CPU socket is on your right, look to the bottom right corner of the motherboard. There are 3 capacitors, below and between them is a cihp, removeable on mine. Below the chip there is also the extra IDE connectors if you bought the version that has onboard raid.

HELP!!!

TIA

I bet you mean the chip shown in this picture. Note the red arrow. It points at the end of the chip that has the semi-circular cutout on it. That help? :)

BTW, be careful if you use a heatsink with a wide, three-lug clip. There is a weentsy little surface-mounted device at the upper-right corner of the CPU socket that you can peel right off of the board with a three-lug clip. Guess how I found that out. :p OTOH, the A7V333-RAID is a piece of junk in my humble opinion (sorry) and if you kill it, then you've got a great excuse to upgrade

HEY! thats exactly what I was talking about...i guessed right, woohoo.

and as far as it being a POS...it very well may be, but hey Its going in an older server, so I don't really care, its a temporary fix til my other board gets replaced anyways. That or I may buy karaktu's dual xeon rig :)

But hey, many many thanks. Didn't expect a reply, let alone...one that fast!

Hehe :D BTW if you need high PCI performance out of it at all, disable the onboard USB 2.0 using the jumper. The onboard USB 2.0 controller really destroys the performance of the PCI bus for some reason
