All laptops have cams these days and cheesy ones at that. I bought my first webcam for my desktop its very handy. Its an autofocus Logitech C525 720p. It was only $45 off Ebay.

Ive since discovered the wonders of auto-on recording when someone enters the room, making videos easily when family is around, etc.

Also chatroulette. D:

I don't but I've considered getting one to act as an always on security camera. It would be kinda discrete unlike actually installing cameras around. Don't really need to cover the entire house to have security cameras, they're already in, the damage is done, you just want a clear shot of them for evidence.

Not on my desktop. I never use video chat so it's kind of pointless to have one.

I used to think the same thing. But it has opened up a whole new world on tinychat, blogtv, and CR. People dont always judge you by your looks especially in a chatroom with 100 people and 12 people on cam. Its a lot of fun. And with the right software like webcammax, you can be anybody you want to be. :sneaky:

i'd always be afraid i had left it on

Whats more worrisome is I have seen websites try to activate the webcam on my laptop involantarily.

I used to, but I never used it so I got rid of it. Turns out that nobody on chatroulette wants to see my junk.

Had two, never really used them. Sent one to one of the kids. Don't know where the other is.
Wife's laptop has one. Not sure if it's ever been used.

Nope. I have nothing against video chat, but most of my conversations occur in text, in person, or on the phone. I don't leave my PC on all the time, so it would be useless as a security device.

Nope. I had my netbook for 2 years before I even checked to see if the camera worked. I took a still shot, and haven't turned it on since :^D

I have a webcam that can turn on it's own to track movement although I don't have it hooked up at the moment. Kind of cool as a gadget, but the picture looks like shit since I got it a long time ago

Yeah, Microsoft Lifecam HD-5000. Use it rather extensively to talk to my friends (who live in different countries), my brother, my sister etc. on Skype/Facebook. Has a great mic too. Not a big fan of its autofocus (even the slightest movements will cause it to readjust focus annoyingly) so I turn it off.

Thats why I went with Logitech vs Microsoft. You have an option to follow your face and it moves around as you do, focusing in an out. I have seen people use MS cams and they focus so much and its very noticeable when they do. The Logitech refocuses very little and when it does its so fast you dont even notice it.

All that for $39 plus $6 shipping off Ebay. Not bad.

No, I had Hummercam when we had nesting hummingbirds but my ViCam, circa 1999, is not Win 7 compatible.
