Just stick the "protected by whatever secruity company" sticker on your front door and windows, then you are set.

The logic behind this is that if an intruder wants to break in despite seeing the warning on the sticker, then hes gonna do it whether you have a system or not. Since he decides hes gonna break in anyways despite seeing the warning, then he must think hes skilled enough to bypass it, or get away before the cops can come. So your sh!t will be jacked whether you have a system or not.

No, but our house looks worse than Anna Nicole Smith so they don't know that I've got a nice set of toys inside.

other than "a pet",
I have THREE dogs. BIG dogs. And a pile of guns, and a pile of ammo, and 2 sons beside myself who can shoot well (they're both more accurate, but the older sons slower reaction time makes up for it)

Security system, me, plenty of guns, me, a higly trained martial artist, ... oh thats me.

Yes, private gate, high walls, guard dog, small armory. It still dont mean sh@t. You can get jumped in your car and be forced to let the intruders into your home at gunpoint.

Yes, and mine is monitored 24/7 by the alarm company. My 2 dogs are very vocal when they hear someone other than me and my GF. Worst case scenario I have a 9mm with a 15 shot clip ready for action.

Why waste money on a security system? I read thieves are out of your house within minutes and that average response time by police is like 8-10 mins so it does no good but annoy the neighbours (just like car alarms).

Insurance companies give a discount because they know that alarm systems decrease the chances of theft.

My street is in a neighborhood with only two entrances, and I'm fully 5 minutes back - 3 racing through illegally - so if the cops were called, and there is often one in the area, it would be a great risk to try and rob my house and hope you can get out of the area quickly.

Do you guys with guns have those ones that have automated targetting systems for when you're out of the house?

I do - two actually - one was a normal wired in-the-house one that was in the house when I bought it. Nothing fancy but has a battery back up etc.

The second, I added, it's simple but effective - no audible alarm but if it detects a break in (door opened or motion) it calls me on my cell phone and lets me listen to what is going on inside the house. For me that seemed like the best scenario. If I'm concerned something is going on I can drive home / call a neighbor / call the police / whatever.
