Do you have a maid/cleaner?

I don't understand how anyone can not have one.

Why would you waste your time cleaning? Mine only costs €9/hour, which is well worth the expense every two weeks for a few hours.

I live in India, so:

1 full time live in maid $130ish per month
1 full time helper $120ish per month
2 drivers, approx $250 each per month

Total around $750-1000 is our monthly expenditure on domestic help.

Nope. I try to keep things fairly clean so I don't have to spend a lot of time cleaning.

I'd rather hire a personal chef than a maid.

I live in the Unites States, so:

1 full time nuclear power network $130ish per month
1 full time water purification plant $40ish per month
1 full time waste reclamation system $15ish per month
2 full time police departments (city PD and county sheriff keeps rape gangs out) FREE

Hmm a chief/cleaner hybrid would be awesome actually. Yes, a wife can do that, but if you could hire someone, they wont take half your stuff if you decide you don't want them anymore.

Maids are great until they steal something. We aren't talking about professionals here, but most often minimum wage people that can't get another job.

My great aunt's friend just setup a camera because $500 in cash was missing. Don't ask me why she had $500 sitting around, but in the end it was the home nurse and not the maid.

I do the cleaning here, which ends up being about 30 minutes a day; just have a schedule and do certain things on certain days. When you try to clean 'everything' at once, instead of keeping up with cleaning everyday, it's a huge pain.

I've been considering it for this reason. It takes me a whole Saturday to do what a professional cleaner would accomplish in a few hours. Even f you're on minimum wage (~$18/hour in Sweden) it would be a 1:1 trade as far as time vs money.

Still, I'm a bit wary giving away any more apartment keys. I already have a dog walker who has a key. Not sure I want people from developing countries like Poland or Romania, with a different perception of right and wrong, rummaging through my stuff when I'm away.

How big is your place? Average europe home is tiny compared to US McMansion home. For example, average home in UK is only 820 sq ft. By comparison, average US home is 2,300 sq ft, almost triple the size. Why do you need a maid/cleaner for a house size of a large hotel room? Are you that lazy and dirty? Why not use that money to run the A/C during the summer so you can be comfortable?

I thought you were crazy with that 2300 average for the US, but good lord: Median and Average Square Feet of Floor Area in New Single-Family Houses Completed by Location

Mine's only 1050ft² (97.5m²). The largest we ever had as a kid was something like 1650ft² and that place was huge.

Definitely worth the 100 I spend a month on a maid. Cleans the house twice a week, gotta work on the pipe cleaning tho.

No. I have trust issues, and I keep my stuff clean. It would be hard for someone to come in and live up to my standards for cleanliness. I also change my own oil and iron my own shirts.

I could afford to pay others to do these things, but I don't want to.
