I thought up this poll after a recent article in Anandtech. Just how many people use illegal copies. I'm not asking for replys, just answer the poll. I don't think there is anyway to track you down so you should be safe.... if you use an illegal copy that is

I used to use pirated copies of Windows. I was a HS student, didn't have the 199 to drop on Windows. Fast forward to the present, and I've got a decent paying, stable job. Both my desktop and laptop use legit versions of XP Pro.

My copy is on the shelf. I tested it; hated it. Back to W2k dual-booted with W98se. I wish that I'd used a so-called "free" copy to test with!

perhaps you should change the "only one legit copy" to "some legit and some pirated" to cover all cases.

Formerly used a "trial version" but have since purchased. I might also add that it was partly the opinions expressed on this forum that helped remind me that what I was doing was wrong, so thanks guys :)

I actually am running an illegal copy but I slowly started going legal with all my programs a couple of years ago. I now have a legal copy of WinXP Pro but I'm waiting until I upgrade in a couple of months to install my new copy. I've had this install running since 2003 and if I'm gonna format and reinstall I don't want to do it and then in a couple months do it again.

Another reason I've gone legal with Windows is the hassle of getting around getting updates. It was such as pain (at first) finding a work around to use SP1. I had to change my key and most of them were blacklisted blah blah blah. I haven't even tried to install SP2 but that doesn't matter because the legal copy of Windows I have now has SP2 already built in. When I upgrade, I can FINALLY go to the MS site and not worry about having to format and reinstall because of MS seeing a blacklisted key I'm using!

Now, I get to buy Longhorn when it comes out...happy happy joy joy!
