Server 2k3 Box running on P4 2.8 with 1024 Ram.

Runs Exchange and ISA, Streams to xbmc, used for backups, file storage, Domain Controller... etc.

Pretty much overkill, but if the school gives it out, and its free.... I'm on it!

I have had a file server/gateway/ftp server box for years. I used to share connections on dial-up. Today it is an Athlon 1100 200FSB with 512MB and 120GB and GigE using jumbo frames. This file server runs Win2003 and does RDC, ftp server, gateway/router, and folding@home. That's right, folding@home on a router. It is a busy box.😀

i used too, i ran a RAID5 array @ 500GB. I got tired of it and sold it for an external 320GB USB drive. I like that much more.

Thinking about buying my company's old web server and turning it into a file server.

Not beast but it'll do the job: Dual 1Ghz, 1GB RAM, and a RAID controller card. Additional HDDs can be added later as good deals are found. 🙂
