Do you own the condo? It'll probably hurt your resale value if you replace the space with built-in cabinets.

Yeah, I own it. It's a small studio, best suited for single people, and I was wondering if other people like myself don't find the need for a dishwasher. If not, then it wouldnt hurt the resale value much, hopefully.

I think you're in the minority.

Unless the condo otherwise totally awesome and is in a splendid location, if I were a buyer I'd either:
a) leave because I don't want to consider spending time and money rebuilding a space for one
or
b) lower my offer to compensate

You should probably leave it.

Agreed, most people want a washer to come with the unit. Remember, most people are lazy even when it comes to a couple dishes and a fork. The demand plus your future competition once you are ready to sell should be reason enough to keep it.

Yes, we have a pretty aweseome one. I use it about once every two days.
No pre-washing is required.
It is even so amazing that we can put the beer pot in there with dried hops, etc and it comes out like new.

It is a great appliance and I don't know what I would do without it.

Can you link me the washer you have? I have yet to hear about or experience one which truly requires zero pre-washing? Does it do the same job if you do not run the washer within 24 hours of everything getting dirty?

My husband (iamwiz82) informed me that it is a Bosch that the specific model is no longer made.

Thanks. I'll have to remember that brand when the time comes for me to upgrade.

We have one and we use it every one or two days - family of four.

My wife and I lived in a house without one for a year before we had kids - that sucked.

I am sooooo happy to have one.
When I lived in my townhouse in Streamwood, I didn't have one.
When I lived alone, it wasn't that bad to just manually do dishes (though I HATEd it with a passion, and would procrastinate until I ran out of clean plates and silverware to use, but it was like once every 2 weeks that I had to wash) ....

Now that I have a dishwasher, it gets run maybe 4 or 5 days per week. There are four of us living there, and usually there's at least 4 or 5 plates and like 6 or 7 cups and a bunch of silverware every day as well as at least a couple of pots and pans ...
I haven't had to prewash anything ever, there are a few things that I've had to run through twice, but that's only happened when we stuffed it too full and blocked dishes from getting properly cleaned!

As far as a reason why you should keep yours, there may on may not be one, but there may be several.
If you eventually plan on starting a family and doing so at the place you currently live, then by all means keep it as you'll find it much more handy when two or more people live there. If you have company over for dinner or something, you'll find it handy, so if you invite people over a lot, it's worth keeping. Also, a dishwasher is a definite plus for selling a home. If you are planning on selling and moving out eventually, then it may be easier to sell if you keep the dishwasher.

Yes and yes. Use it every day, I cook for a family of four every day.

You can actually just use it for storage if you don't use it for washing, if you want more storage space. I know people who do that (keep dishes in it to free up a cupboard.)

that's what my parents do.

mine isn't very functional, but the building won't replace it, so it sits there like a waste of space, the old hunk of junk. i hand wash everything now. looking for a new place now, i ALWAYS look for dishwashers, because i'm so tired of hand washing everything!

Yes, I use it every day and a half. Buy a good one if you plan on using one. I never understood why people rinse things until I realized how shitty most of the dishwashers on the market are. If it doesn't have three wash arms, you're going to hate it.

I live alone and run the dishwasher in my townhouse about every other day. I cook most of my own meals and for my GF a few times a week though.

I live by myself and rarely use it too . . . its easier and more energy efficient to just hand wash the few dishes. Every once in awhile though, it comes in handy like when you have people over or when you cook and there are a lot prep dishes that need to be washed.

we have several dishes, so even though we clean it by hand before putting it in the dishwasher, we still put it in and run it after a few days of stock piling some dishes.

Yes, and I live alone. I use it as a drying rack. Saves on counterspace.
