Do you have a dishwasher?

My condo came with a dishwasher installed in the kitchen. In the two years I've lived here, I've never used it. I'm thinking about taking it out and maybe using that space for extra storage cabinets.

Living by myself, there isnt a lot to wash after every meal. One spoon/fork and one bowl/plate at most. Sometimes nothing if I just get takeout. Washing that stuff myself takes like 30 seconds.

Can anyone give me a reason why I ought to keep it?

Yes I have one and we use every couple of days.

As for a reason to keep it.... I don't have one. Remove it and put cabinets in the space.

Do you plan on living by yourself forever? If not, keep it, you will not regret it.

Edit: I use mine around once per week.

Yes, I live alone. Seeing as they did that study how washing by hand uses 6-7X more water than a dishwasher.... I use it.

Do you own the condo? It'll probably hurt your resale value if you replace the space with built-in cabinets. People looking to buy condos usually prefer the hardware to be included as well, which could scare off buyers.

Yes and yes.

I hardly used mine before I started cooking a lot. You'd have to pry it away from me now.
Also, if you happen to sell the place it might look kinda odd.

No. I have these things called hands to wash 4 items or less of "dishes."

This and the resale value are about the only reasons considering your scenario.

Yes, we have a pretty aweseome one. I use it about once every two days.
No pre-washing is required.
It is even so amazing that we can put the beer pot in there with dried hops, etc and it comes out like new.

It is a great appliance and I don't know what I would do without it.

What, do you live on microwave meals or something? No pots, pans, knives, cutting boards, spatulas, etc?

I mean, I've lived the past 5 years without a dishwasher and gotten by, but a plate and a fork per meal...I just can't figure that out.

We use it at least every other day, but we have 2 kids so there is quite a bit more for us to wash.

Can you link me the washer you have? I have yet to hear about or experience one which truly requires zero pre-washing? Does it do the same job if you do not run the washer within 24 hours of everything getting dirty?

Yeah, I own it. It's a small studio, best suited for single people, and I was wondering if other people like myself don't find the need for a dishwasher. If not, then it wouldnt hurt the resale value much, hopefully.

Lots of single people cook. I would have loved a dishwasher when I was single (don't even try to take mine now that I've got a wife and kid). If I'd seen your condo without a dishwasher and another one with a dishwasher, I'd have been very unlikely to buy yours.

I have one, and use it about once a week. I too live by myself and have enough dishes to fill up the dish washer before I run it

You're right, there's sometimes a pot or pan that needs washing. So like 3 items per meal. I guess my habit is to wash the pot immediately after cooking anyways and wouldnt let it sit in the dishwasher, since I only have one.

I think you're in the minority.

Unless the condo otherwise totally awesome and is in a splendid location, if I were a buyer I'd either:
a) leave because I don't want to consider spending time and money rebuilding a space for one
or
b) lower my offer to compensate

You should probably leave it.

Yes, family of 4, we use it pretty much every night after supper, sometimes twice a day on the weekends. Absolutely love the thing; it has a food chopper built in so the dishes can go in sloppy and come out fancy clean.
