Remember how excited you were when you saw this P-MVA at TN prices? Sure it did look gorgeous, when it worked. One day out of the blue, your monitor would never again ignite its obnoxiously bright LED, and you would do some googling to find out the PSUs on these tend to overheat and go bad.

If you were lucky, you would have found out Soyo actually sold replacement PSUs... back when they were in business. Why these things fail only when mfg warranty runs out remains a riddle. I am sure you have checked ebay countless times and looked all over the web at no avail.

Well, fear not brother, for we shall finally have our cure to resurrect that once beautiful gem!

I just stumbled on this by pure luck while searching for something totally random. The guy looks legit, and if for whatever reason he aint, its only $5 to lose at worst. I just registered at SD so I can get aboard this group buy, so should you if you haven't already. If you are hesitant, I will keep you updated on how my experience goes.

I got a Soyo Topaz 24" about 2 years ago when somebody posted the Office Max deal in the hot deals thread. I also bought one for my mother at the same time.

So far both of them are going good, I use mine for gaming all the time. The only thing that was wrong with mine was I would get sparkling issues all the time, I would turn the screen on and there were be weird colored pixels all over the screen. After some googling, I found out other people had the same problem but fixed it by replacing the DVI cable that came with the monitor. I bought a new DVI cable from monoprice and never had the problem again.

Yeah I did exactly the same while it was still working. crappy included dvi cable gave me problems, subsequent upgradage with monoprice cable got that sorted out. Too bad there wasn't much that could be done on the PSU.

Another 24" Soyo satisfied customer here. I used a DVI cable I already had on hand and mine is dead pixel free and flawless since I bought it 2 years ago.

Mine still working, had it about a year and a half now.

OP: there is no "mystery" to it dying after warranty-- they used cheap parts.

You're still hard pressed these days to find a 24" P-MVA for $300 though.

Mine is still working great after 2+ years. In some ways, it performs better than the Dell 2408wfp that I have (no input flickering where it randomly decides to swap to and back another input source when nothing else is connected, better backlight adjustment).

Repaired with good caps, you will probably have a longer lasting PSU than the supposed, improved, replacement... assuming the caps are the problem, the only problem which they may not be in all cases.

If I read that correctly, the problem resides in its inherent design flaw how the cap is tightly enclosed by a heatsink and some of the heatsinks are even used as conducting path for electric signals. Not sure if that's improved in the 'new' design, but at least the guy is giving you a 1 year warranty on that.

I have a 26" soyo pearl, the first one died (PSU i guess) last January. RMAed it right before they went out of business. Good to know.
