The vast majority of Americans are "rich people" compared to the rest of the world.

You are either blind or joking. Perhaps you should spell poll the right way before calling someone else stupid.

Strippers use a pole. Typos are acceptable, ignorance is not.

I am only bothered by lazy people.

Being a diamond-encrusted mouse kind of person has nothing to do with money. There are a lot of poor people who would buy one if they could. Who would gladly flaunt their wealth if they had any. They're the same inside, where it counts, where you would look when judging someone.

I would love to live their life, so no. To be honest, we have this one life and I'll be damned if I worry about what strangers think of me as a private citizen if I had money. Latest example - I'm reading a real estate forum... people always point out people who live in "mcmansions" and generally put them down. Hey if I'm in a new-ish house like that, I'm enjoying it with my family from inside, and you're in your 50-year old 3-bedroom ranch spending time putting others down.

I think it's sad that some people spend more time caring about what others are doing.

Only if they became "rich" through crooked/unlawful means. To those who worked hard to get where they are, fine with me. Flaunting it would be an invitation to get robbed, IMHO.

Pretty much the way I feel. I make a good living but wish I could make that one decision and take that one chance which would set me for life, so I admire those who took those chances and succeeded. However, I don't feel anyone should flaunt it -- just because you make more than someone else doesn't mean you're better than anyone else. Luck plays a big part of it -- I mean, look at Bill Gates. He is super smart, but he had a couple of lucky breaks along the way which propelled him forward. Had those breaks not gone his way, he might have still succeeded, but probably not at big as he has today.

I hate show off rich people, but there are still lot of good rich people who donate to charity or help others either financially or with their time and overall still show compassion. It's the ones that are nose in the air that I hate.

People often hate on Bill Gates, but he actually does give a lot to charity and spends lot of time to help out.

This. And it's not just rich people who try to flaunt things. There are middle-class people who spend a large part of their money on a nice car and nice clothes (i.e. things that people will see) and try to stick their nose up in the air toward those who don't feel the need to spend $500 on a handbag for every day of the week. I've found that people like this are often in crazy amounts of debt and don't live in a nice house, but they sure can impress people when going out on a Friday night!

I guess it depends on the rich person(s).

Yes:
People who have gotten rich off of others' suffering
People who scam to get rich
People who don't give anything back but have tons and tons of money
People who feel they are entitled to make more than others

No:
People made their own wealth
People responsible with their fortunes
Honest and hard working who have made a lot of money

You can determine all that simply by meeting someone for a few seconds?

Depends how they act. Years ago I worked at a computer related company with around 400 employees. The CEO started the company from the ground basically out of his living room, so I couldn't be mad at him for being rich. He was self made, and that was admirable. I was, however, mad at how he acted once he had money. One time he bought a new Porsche, and instead of having it delivered to his house, he had it delivered at work. The truck showed up and pulled up next to the building and unloaded it right next to the windows to the assembly area. The assembly area was where probably the lowest paid workers outside of janitors and security worked. So they all got to see this guy get his new Porsche and show it off to other higher-ups all afternoon. Tactless if you ask me.

First of all let me say that if you earned what you have more power to you. But there is a certain class of people that feel the need to flaunt everything amongst the peons out there, hoping to impress everyone with their tacky sense of self worth and otherwise faux character in these troubled times. I find those types of people to be extremely annoying and quite worthy of scorn....scorn I say!

those people deserve scorn, sure, but that isn't about being rich and flaunting their wealth--it's indicative of a cascade of other psychosocial problems prevalent with such people.

Rich people, in general, no.

So basically, you guys hate people who flaunt their shit they may or may not have.

Sounds like rich or poor people could fit into that category. Thread is now done.

You know, that is rather tacky. Yes, you are rich - yay for you. But please dont rub my damn nose in it. Thank you.

I wonder what he is going to do next to remind everyone he is rich? Give everyone a bonus? Fair enough. Have 100 bellydancers stop by and feed him fruit? No thanks!

What I want to know is what the poller's definition of rich is? This probably would have to be another poll. But is it an individual earning $100K, $200K, $300K, etc. ? Or is it someone who's net worth (savings - liabilities) of more than $100K, $200k, $500K, etc. ?

Remember the famous quote by Yoda, "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering".
