As the sun and the drama start to mount
The air is charged
A humid, motionless mass
The crowds and the cameras,
The cars full of spectators pass
Excitement so thick you could cut it with a knife
Technology...high, on the leading edge of life
The earth beneath us starts to tremble
With the spreading of a low black cloud
A thunderous roar shakes the air
Like the whole world exploding
Scorching blast of golden fire

Tears away with a mighty force
The air is shattered by the awesome sound
Like a pillar of cloud
The smoke lingers high in the air

Yo, scientists gather in a secret place to debate
They photographed the Earth from space and saw my face
They tried to translate the innate asiatic shape
before the final earthquakes came but it was too late
Only one eighth of the human race escaped to space
They were chased by flying phenomenon to the lunar base
Floatillas and space centers, lasers probed the entrance
DNA code sensors reject old genetics
I presented my cosmic clearance to a patrol of medics
I was injected with sodium pentathol and questioned
I relayed the message the way I was trained to remember it
I showed them the keypad code and told 'em to enter it
I told 'em which alphanumeric buttons were sensitive
He snatched it outta my hand and started depressing it
I told him detonation was definite if he kept at it
He never quit, he just lost his temper and flipped
I bowed my head like I guess this is it
My ears popped, the music stopped, and I couldn't hear sh!t

The driver jogged around to the front and opened the door
He said his name was Muhammed Jamal and he'd be with me 'till fall
He said the escort service had called
and a package would be waitin for me at the window
I said thanks, he grabbed my bags fast and put 'em in the trunk
Then he ran around to the front, slammed it in gear
Pulled off slow, winding down his window
and asked me if I minded if he smoke, I said no, he drove off
Cut my cell phone off, then I swallowed a tablet of Zoloft
Went to sleep and woke up feelin' kinda lost
I asked him what the weather's been like lately
he said he doesn't mind the heat and hates the A/C
Said he had a son who was eighteen and made beats
and I happened to be his favorite emcee
I said for real, that's crazy, I meet him later
Yo Jamal could you please do me a favor
When we get to the corner stop at the bodega
Hopped out the car, walked inside
the store's stereo was playin' Feliz Navidad
I got a pack of condoms and walked to the back of the line
There was three Taliban that was talkin' very loud
One reached in his back side and pulled out a Beretta gun
The last word I heard myself say was a four letter one
He looked me in the eye and said the drama's never done
Cuz there's no return...no return

I heard the ringtone of the red phone
Headquarters informed us there was an explosion in the red zone
We were ordered to get ready to go
and to get into our bio-weapons protective gear and clothes
I rode shotgun, my partner Ramirez drove
GPS control gave us coordinates where to go
Soon as we got there I could feel the hot air
For a second I stopped and stared, there was cops everywhere
I told 'em we need to get a square perimeter clear
We got an hour 'till nightfall, so light some flares
I said a twenty second prayer then ran to the second chair-
the lift that was there, then I waved my hands up in the air
to signal that it was clear before I ran upstairs
I could barely see, smoke was so thick in the air
I was visually impaired and started to get scared
I heard a woman scream HELP but I didn't know where
I started screamin' back I'm not gonna leave you here
Sayin to myself damn it's hard to breathe in here
Searched the rooms one by one like fvck my lungs
Ramirez said the fire truck got stuck by the front
I crawled all the way through the foyer to the end of the hallway
and seen her on the floor next to the doorway
I was half unconscious but I just ignored the pain
Helped her to her feet and she had her arm in a brace
All this tar-like black stuff was all in her face
I radio Ramirez coughin and tried to explain
I heard him say something to me like It's all in flames!
There was ceiling debris fallin all over the place
I looked her in her eye, she looked into mine, it was strange
Then I blinked for the last time and never saw her again

Sounds like someone spent a lot of time with the MS Word Thesaurus.

You were attempting to rhyme like Rakim.

"Myself" "Go" and "Home" do not rhyme.
"own" "home" "unknown" "stone" do rhyme.

You failed as well.

ENG 280-01 The Folk Music Revival
Lebeaux TR 10:00?11:40
An exploration of the folk music revival of the 1960s, its roots in the decades that preceded it, and its legacy. We will consider the many cultural, historical, political, and musical influences that culminated in the folk revival; the emergence of folk music into the mainstream of popular culture; and the significance of the folk revival in the context of the 1960s and American culture. We will read about, listen to, discuss and interpret the music and achievements of such individuals and groups as Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Pete Seeger, the Almanac Singers, the Weavers, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Phil Ochs, and we will consider other musical figures/groups/single-songwriters, events, and developments associated with the folk (and folk-rock) scene. (Course also listed as AMST 250.)

lol pwned :D

and you failed to pwn me :) pwned. go nef somewhere else.

No dude, you got pwned.
You asked for a course on Dylan lyrics, 99% sure you weren't expecting one, and then someone posted one.
That = pwned, you got what you wanted when you didn't think you'd get it.
You issued a challenge, got served, and now you want out, so you = pwned.
PWNED PWNED PWNED
and, err, PWNED.
Accept it.

To tell you the truth, I was expecting it.. because it seems like almost every person who hates hip hop worships him. And the people who listen to Bob Dylan are too ignorant to even bother listening to Hip Hop artists.

The same goes with the people who make these courses. They don't realize anyone else's poetic / lyrical skills because they're just too damn ignorant to bother listening to them as the case with all of you rap haters.

Bob Dylan is not as lyrical as Rakim. Why does no one study him? Because they're just too damn ignorant to even bother reading / learning about him.

Why? Because no one wants to hear about lyrics that talk about killing people and proving how tough they are. It's nothing but a bunch of self-gratifying BS. "Rakim" is as much of a frikin idiot as all the other modern pop rappers, and so are you for being so adamant about his lyrics.

To me, this thread is about how rap doesn't suck... And not all of it does. I hate the more mainstream crap as much as anybody else... But guys like Outkast, Nas, Kanye West, Common, Jurassic 5, and K-Os and Black Star especially put out great music. If you don't like it, that's your opinion, but stop acting like all rap sucks just because guys like Mike Jones are popular.

Wow.

The majority don't have lyrics that give the impression they spent hours copying out of a thesaurus.

You've been totally owned numerous times by numerous people in this thread. Thanks for posting; I've thoroughly enjoyed laughing at you.

I do. What I also see through the entire "song" is the writer spouting off a bunch of garbage self-gratifying BS about how good of a "rapper" he is.

The only people who would listen to that crap are those not intelligent enough to appreciate real lyrics. I suppose if you listen to said self-gratifying BS enough from modern "rappers", you'll believe their lyrics are good, because you know, if you hear a lie enough times you'll start to believe it as truth.

The thread could have been that way if the OP didn't start spouting off ridiculous statements such as "Rakim is lyrically light years ahead of Dylan" and posting every fcking Nas and Rakim song.

He asked us to name some songs that are better lyrically. We did, and he threw a hissy fit where he goes off on all sorts of highly-esteemed artists and how they suck, eventually causing this thread to turn into a flame-fest.

I dont hate rap, but I dont love it either. With this thread, the OP is only hurting my views of rap, not helping.

I do hate rap. All it does it encourage kids to act like what they hear in the music they listen to, which is always negative. Rap is a menace.

Yes, I already know you are so hell-bent and closeminded that no matter what we say we, and the rest of the world, are idiots in your eyes. You dont have to reiterate that fact.

Lets use what this thread has been in another context. Let's say, oh i dunno, ice cream.

I say that it doesnt get better than Vanilla Ice Cream and that everyone should love it. In fact, I DARE you to name me a better tasting ice cream than Vanilla. No matter what you'll name I can easily say, "No. Vanilla ice cream is where it's at. Those other flavors dont hold a candle to it"

It's the same exact principle. That doesnt mean I'd be right or that you are an idiot for saying Chocolate, or Oreo or whatever.

Your OP pretty much states we are closed-minded for not giving rap a chance, but you are JUST as closed-minded if not MORE.

From the big woman whose face I splattered
Etereal beings got sick and sh!t
Watching da action with ma bird who's fit

Done.

There's a four-song album you can download, along with a huge collection of fan remixes, all for free. I highly suggest you listen to the song Fett's Vette, which is a damn catchy tune. It's also about Star Wars. Yes, a Star Wars rap.

Ok, wtf does that mean? Please explain to me what does the lyrics above mean?
It's just a bunch of words thrown together that means nothing, except for the last few sentences which is about him saying that he is a good rapper. The rest are just gibberish.

The only rap song that I ever have heared that presented some aspect of deleivering a message is Gangstar Paradaise by Coolio, because he is talking about not having an education and blah blah and all of that hood BS is nothing but a waste of fine life that could have been invested in something better, but that's as far as rap ever went in my book.

The thread could have been that way if the OP didn't start spouting off ridiculous statements such as "Rakim is lyrically light years ahead of Dylan" and posting every fcking Nas and Rakim song.

He asked us to name some songs that are better lyrically. We didn't, and he threw a hissy fit where he goes off on all sorts of highly-esteemed artists and how they suck, eventually causing this thread to turn into a flame-fest.

I dont hate rap, but I dont love it either. With this thread, the OP is only hurting my views of rap, not helping.

Yes, I already know you are so hell-bent and closeminded that no matter what we are say we, and the rest of the world, are idiots in your eyes.

I do hate rap. All it does it encourage kids to act like what they hear in the music they listen to, which is always negative. Rap is a menace.

Not true. If you want to go what you see on MTV though, look at Kanye West, Nas, Common, OutKast, and you can see plenty songs without negative messages. You can find lots of rock with bad meanings too. Without even looking past the band names, I find "My Chemical Romance" and "The Killers." Do those bands make kids do drugs and kill people. No, and even if your whole song was,"I'mma kill you (repeat x10000000000000)," anyone who wasn't already mentally unstable would be fine. The people that would kill each other regardless are the ones who let music control them.

I see your point. I stand corrected. I should change "always" to "usually". In my book, there's Rap and then there's Hip Hop; I listen to Hip Hop, because I dance West Coast Swing, and a good majority of the music played at socials is Hip Hop. The majority of the stuff you see on MTV is Hip Hop. They'd never show Gangster Rap on MTV, and that's what I was referring to. I suppose I shouldn't clump ALL rap together into one category, but I believe the majority of Rap is bad and useless.

The kind of rap the OP likes, Rakim etc, in my opinion is stupid and useless. I read the lyrics, I've heard the songs on XM; the world would be better off without their "music".
