Do You Hate Christmas Like I do?

Does anybody else on ATOT hate Christmas like I do?

I hate having to spend time with relatives I don?t like.

I hate trying to put on a happy face and wish everyone a ?Merry Christmas? when I would rather be at home watching football.

I hate buying gifts for people that have everything or I don?t have the foggiest idea what they would like.

I hate taking my staff out for Christmas lunch and trying to make conversation about nothing.

I hate that people think we should spend time together, simply because we are family.

I hate having to attend ?open house? parties that we get invited to, but don?t want to go to, but have to make an appearance.

?..

I hate the way my GF's parents and brother turn gift giving into a contest of who can spend the most money that they don't have.

Good one. That happens in my family as well. Now that I happen to have had a little success, they try to make me feel guilty that I didn't spend enough on them. My sister actually hinted that I should buy her a car last year.

I don't hate it, it's just very busy & stressful.

Fighting crowds in the store to buy gifts is the worst. If I can't buy it online, I'm not going to buy it.

I hate it because I have a bad family and the drama increases exponientially. The old people are on thier death bed every year at this time and recover soon afterwards. The younger people all go on binges and start beating each other up. I stay away if I can.

I feel the same way. But my solution is to just ignore all the parties, invitations, and merry christmas'ing. If people think im being rude... well, tough. Dont invite me next year. 😀

I wish I could do the same. My wife refuses to ignore some of the invites, and I have to attend a few events for business reasons.

i truly am sorry you feel that way. 🙁

although i do not look forward to christmas as i did when i was a child, i still enjoy the season and make the best of everything.
I do not like a lot of my family, but i take that time to catch up with the folks i do love. I enjoy getting really dressed up, i enjoy all the great food.

It makes me happy to put a smile on someones face, so i make sure to sincerely wish someone well or a happy holiday because i am getting annoyed at the amount of commerialism there is out there now for christmas.

although we do not have a boat load of money, i enjoy giving gifts to those that mean something to me. I feel good giving to other.
I could go on and on... but as i said, the Holidays are what each person makes of them. If you want to focus on the negative, that is totally up to you, but why not embrace the good things (as small as the list might be) instead?

I'll let Charles Dickens speak for me.

But I am sure I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round -- apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin, if anything belonging to it can be apart from that -- as a good time: a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time: the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. And therefore, uncle, though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it!"

I hate how presents are so expected, along with cards and things. I don't send people cards, I don't expect/want them from other people.

I'm happy to buy presents for people I know well, as then it's easy to find them stuff, and it's enjoyable getting them things you know they want/like. Having to buy presents for anyone you might see during Christmas, just buying all these crappy token presents that mean nothing, that really pisses me off.

I'd much rather not receive anything from other random people and not give them anything. It would work out much better for both parties, espeically those fringe relationships whereby you don't know the person, possibly never met them, but you're going to be seeing them, so a present is mandatory.

If I don't know someone well enough to be able to figure out a present for them, then why buy them some piece of crap to symbolise that. I'd rather buy them a beer and get to know them for next year lol.

Yes, I've just been Christmas shopping.

I'm not much of a people person, so Christmas has always been kind of "meh" to me with all of the get-togethers and such. It's a good thing I have a laptop in addition to my desktop, so I will have something to do 😀.

I love Crhistmas time.

I enjoy spending time with family. even those i would not care to see the rest of the year. its fun hearing them brag about crap that is stupid

I am usually a happy person.

i do kinda agree with the gifts one. I hate buying stuff for my wife. she never says what she wants or even hints. she said i should know what she wants. I thought she wanted a wii for the family this year (hehehehe )

I don't get into the spending war with others. i have a set amount i want to spend on each.

but anyway i do love this time of year. just hate the snow and cold LOL

The joy is supposed to be in the giving, not the receiving. Everyone that gives you a card or gift is not necessarily expecting one in return.
