Nope. Verizon charges for them, either a flat fee for X number of messages per month or per message. So I just don't bother. Of course, I am unable to block messages on my phone so I still end up paying when someone sends me one.

i use it all the time to keep up with some girls since I don't want to talk to them. It's easier and less hassle.

1 message = 1 minute

I'm in CA and I pay for the extra service (Sprint) so my girl in FL can get a hold of me - she has no long distance service and I can just call her back 'when I get the message'. I love it - she knows I don't leave the cell on 24/7 so she doesn't expect an immediate response ;) Plus web browsing is included - to check news etc.

i use it mostly at work and real quick messages if i'm on the road. I actually broke up with a girl using it. AT&T gives it to me for free since i complained about it not working for a month.

Used to use it a lot when I had unlimited, but not anymore now that at+t only gives you 100 free and then charges.

i use it everyday to sms my friends in russia. I have voicestream, and it works pretty good considering it communicates with a real european GSM (even tho I know, VS uses GSM). Anyways, I get 300 a month and thats almost 10 sms's a day, so I never run out.

Everyday. I conduct business internationally through use of this. I conduct business in India, although I can talk to anyone in the world through that for just 5 cents each message through Voicestream. One of the only reasons i got Voicestream is because it is GSM.

Also, people in India use text messaging a lot more than we do in the states to send pictures, icons, love notes, etc. etc. yeah, they can just pick up and call but its cheaper and silent so they can do it in class, etc.

For me, its very important.

Midwest Wireless charges a flat fee... I don't have it, but i don't get charged for when I recieve one...

Personally if I gotta talk to somebody, I'll just call em, otherwise that's what email is for...

Here in Aus everyone uses it. I do not know someone who doesn't. Even my parents use it. Cost US 12cents per message.
I would say that half the phone bill would be from short messages. I just got a new job and the HR lady said she will message me with the start date... Easy and quick

Have you tried calling customer service? I think text messaging on Verizon has to be turned on in order for you to use it. I remember my friend tried sending me some and it wouldn't work because I didn't have the option turned on.

On another note, yes I use text messaging all the time. Last year when I was at school at Santa Cruz and my gf was at Riverside, I'd text her to call me because I didn't have free long distance on my Cingular phone.

No I dont use it - it annoys the hel out of me to type on those tiny buttons oh if u buy a tiny cell- that what u get. Anyway since cell phone companies make more money on SMS than on calls there must be somebody using it.

???? Are u sure u understood the system. U pay for sending one, but certainly not for receiving (unless u are abroad but then it cost u to receive a call too) - otherwise u should think about switching phone company...

I've only sent one ever, but I receive tons. usually it's just people saying when to call them or just hello or whatever, they're doing it from email or a website so it's free, and it's free to get them. AT&T charges 10 cents per message though, so I'm better off making a 1 min phone call where i can say more.
