Do you guys think ATI needs an under $100 DirectX 9 video card?

the 5200 is the latest in a long line of nvidia cards that had a checkbox featureset but performed so slowly that said featureset was unusable. or that said featureset was useless within the life of the card. such as 32-bit color on the TNT. fixed function T&L on the geforce 256. 3D on the riva 128.

3D on the Riva 128 was useable; it was about a Voodoo 1.5 in performance.

it was slower than a diamond monster 3d in quake 2 by about 20% to 33%. so, no, it wasn't.

I was under the impression that the 5200 was OK at lower resolutions; that is just really lacks RAM bandwidth. Not true?

the thing is it really struggles in the newest games enter the matrix for instance and i believe that is still only directx 8 so for DX 9 you are SOL

I dont even think the 9500 Pro will be able to handle 1024x768 max details / no AA / no AF

heck i believe that the 9700 Pro will barely be able to play DX 9 at that res the only reason i have is it plays todays games @ 1600x1200 just fine 🙂

Well of course, it was Nvidia's first OpenGL implementation going against 3dfx's tuned MiniGL. If you were a seious gamer, you obviously owned a Voodoo, but the Riva 128 wasn't too terrible a card compared to the true crap of the day.😉
