I usually don't bother myself. Sometimes I might if I happen to have one and was going to get that item anyway but that's about it. Same with loyalty cards it seems every freaking store has one now, I don't feel like carrying 20 cards everywhere. I feel there is a catch to those, like they might use them to track you and sell your info or something.

?The grocery stores I go to, you either input your phone number [I give them Red Squirrel's] or they will just use the store's card to get you any applicable discount w/o further bother.

We shop alternately between Fred Meyer and Safeway, Safeway has a just for U app. My wife has it on her phone and if I see something really nifty I'll let her know to put it in there. We get fuel points at both places, and because our diesels don't burn much, we pay full price for fuel about once every three times.

What's with the condescending attitude?
It's just pure love, Red. Get used to it.

O.K., a serious answer....everyone sells your data. Order a pizza delivery, you give your name/address/phone#. They sell that to companies like the credit bureaus and other information collecting groups so they, in turn , can sell it to companies looking for a certain demographic.

I use it to track down deadbeats via equifax. Sooner or later, they're going to apply for something, buy a new phone, rent an apartment....

That's why I use cash as much as possible. That, and it's simple. You give me shit, I give you money. No fumbling with machines, no hoops to jump through for refunds, and all it takes is a sixth grade education and a notepad to account for it.

I hate this business of our info always being on the free market, really wish there was laws against that. But government actually loves that stuff so no way they would outlaw it.

Search engines are the worst.....and lxs says duckduckgo. 😉

Facebook too but idiots do that to themselves. It's hilarious watching the cops shows and they're trying to track some guy down. "Oh, look, Leroy is staying at his Grandma's house."😛

Yeah I use only DDG for search and don't use cloud products etc but the part that you have zero control is how companies you do business with sell your info too. Or ones like Equifax, where you're not even really a customer, they just have your info period, just because that's how they work. You never gave it to them but they still have it. And now all that info is on the darkweb too.

The issue with FB, Google and lot of these big data companies is even if you don't have an account they still track you. I've kinda just given in and have one anyway because all my family and IRL friends do and it's only way to keep in touch and share stuff etc, but I'm not worried about what I post I'm more worried about the fact that they know everything I do online, and whether or not I have an account they know anyway. Android is bad for that too, like just having a phone near you it knows everything about what you're doing. I really need to look into ways to degoogle my phone as that can help to some degree.

When I got the LG, I turned on speech to text because I had no interest typing on the tiny keyboard. Digging around in my google account, I found recordings of all of my texts and could play them back. Yeah, no, turned that off but who really knows?

I used to take a lot of pride in saving every dollar I could but now my wife spends it all (on crap usually) including what I manage to save so I don’t spend nearly as much time as I used to trying to save a dollar.

Whataburger sends a mailer to the office - stuck that in my glove box. Burger is gratis with purchase of fries and drink. Works out to $1.50 off.

HEB usually has stacks of coupons next to the items they apply to so I grab those.
Whataburger :openmouth:. Man when I was sent to work in Houston years ago I had it for the first time and I gotta say, I heartily approved.

Yeah, ...like they might use them to track you and sell your info or something.
pay with a credit card? they're tracking your purchases. they can link your in store purchases to your online account if that credit card is on the online account. so walmart knows you bought nitrile gloves, a case of contractor garbage bags, 3 rolls of duct tape, and 5 bottles of extra strength draino in store, and is now asking you online if you need more.

My wife used to be an avid couponer...so much so that my mom sent her this cartoon from the newspaper:

I've seen some guys here work the coupons, promotions, discounts, rebates, piggy backing some to get deals that boggled my mind... way beyond what I've done. I do have maybe 1/2 dozen active credit cards and I work that angle. Least I get is 2% cash back, for some stuff up to 5%.

A lot of people can't be bothered.
