I'm kind of curious, two nights ago I started getting calls from a blocked number. This happened VERY late at night, at around 11:00PM. I ignored it because I usually think it's a telemarketer, or one of my friends trying to prank me.

Now, last night AGAIN, they call at 11:00, I pick up the phone and answer it and they ask for me. I tell them that I'm not here and if I could take a message, they refused. Now they called me at 9:15AM and I'm in class, I send it to voicemail, no message.

Now, obviously I'm slightly curious as to who it might be, but I'm also curious as to what I can do about it?

Don't you think it's a bit inconsiderate of people (including friends) to block numbers?

I only answer the phone if it displays a number that I recognize and I want to talk to that person. Anything else can go to voicemail.

A friend of mine is interviewing for a job with the CIA. He got a call the other day to schedule the interview. The number on his caller ID? 703. (That's the northern virginia area code) I guess I shouldn't be suprised that they have the ability to spoof a phone number, I just think it's funny that it shows up as 703 instead of blank.

Sometimes I do, but usually only when I want to mess with a telemarketer.

TM: Can I have a moment of your time to talk to you about product X?
Me: Sure I've always wondered about product X.
TM: <Begins never-ending droning about product X>
Me: <sets phone on chair and goes to watch TV>

I have "privacy manager" thru PacBell/SBC/AT&T whatever they are calling themselves these days...no unblocked calls get thru. If your # is blocked, you have to ID yourself thru that system, and I still have the option to accept or not. That way, people don';t get the "This number does not accept calls from blocked numbers...yada, yada, yada"
PLUS, MY number is blocked as well.

I don't understand the purpose of blocking your caller ID info in the first place. Seems like the only people that would want it blocked would be telemarketers.

Same here. Keep sending the call to voice mail. They will eventually get the hint to leave a message.

For some reason my number had fallen off the Do Not Call Registry (probably because 5 years had passed) and I was getting at least 10 blocked numbers daily. Never answered any of them. They've all stopped now that I signed back up. Thank goodness for Caller ID.

i answer in a phony british accent. either one of two things happen: 1. they think they have a wrong number and hang up (or) 2. identify who they are just so they can make me shut up and stop using the accent (and i have a grand ol' time in the process using my accent and assuming my british alias, william franklin chesterfield iii)

Have you paid all your bills recently? Could be a collection agency. The person who had my cell # before me had some $ issues apparently. When I got the cellphone they were still calling the number asking for him and for the $ he owed some doctor. They would always call from a blocked number and at random times of the day or night.

my parents have their house number blocked, f my mom, claims it cuts down on telemarketers, which I guess is true because I've never had a telemarketer call our house

so yeah i answer it if I want to talk to her when she calls :p
