what exactly is it about?

looking for a new show to watch and i've heard some things about it.

any other series youd reccomend?

i like 24, curb your enthusiasm, etc...just trying to see what else is good.

Damn good Sci-Fi show.

The show chronicles the journey of the last surviving humans from the Twelve Colonies of Man after their nuclear annihilation by the Cylons. The survivors are led by President Laura Roslin and Commander William Adama in a ragtag fleet of ships with the Battlestar Galactica, a powerful but out-dated warship at its head. Pursued by Cylons intent on wiping out the remnants of the human race, the survivors travel across the galaxy looking for the fabled and long-lost thirteenth colony: Earth.

Battlestar Galactica is one of the best drama's on TV -- sci-fi or not. It's already my favorite sci-fi series of all time. It's practically the only reason I still have DirecTV and a DirecTivo and haven't switched to over-the-air High-Def and a Myth box. (I may still do that and just watch seasons on DVD after the fact.)

Other good series, IMHO, are:
- The West Wing (Series over now.)
- Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (From the makers of The West Wing.)
- House
- 24 (but you already know that)

I'm about half way through the second season and loving it. Very interesting and thought provoking. If you like sci-fi, also check out Firefly which was a great series although it only lasted one season.

Just keep it for this season. All I've read say that this is it, they're wrapping it up in season 4.

I've only seen the first two seasons. The first is top notch, the second is okay, though gets too soap-opera-ish for my tastes in parts. I hear three brings it back, though.

Other good sci-fi series: Stargate (of which I'm on a huge kick right now), Babylon 5, the new Doctor Who (season 3 out in Nov in n.america), Red Dwarf is hysterical. For non-sci fi series to look at, I have to concur with West Wing. Also Robot Chicken (season 2 in Sept), Dead Like Me (best non-British black comedy I've seen), and Titus.

Started off as one of the best shows on TV, but it has been a little uneven of late and as such is merely the best sci-fi show on TV, though still probably in the top 20 overall.

I agree to start with the mini-series, but be warned... the mini-series is kind of dry and it takes a few episodes of the "actual" series before you really get sucked in.

BSG is the best and smartest show by far on TV right now..

If there is anything half as intelligent or well-thought, I have yet to see it.

Watch the miniseries first, then start on season 1. It's very good overall.

Yeah, this is a must to know whats going on.

If renting from Netflix it can be confusing.. I rented the first disc of "Season 1" and they sent me Disc 2.. Returned it and added it in my queue again and again I received Disc 2. I figured out you have to rent the mini-series, a seperate listing on Netflix, which comes labeled as Disc 1....

BSG hasn't been all that intelligent of late. A lot of cliched recycled plots from other sci-fi stock plots and what not. The story arc of BSG is quite good, but often gets clouded by stupid crap like unbelievably preposterous courtroom dramas and the like.

I'd say the shield is more intelligent than BSG, in terms of cable shows. The Wire is in a league of its own, head and shoulders above any other show on TV in terms of intelligence, execution, insight into society, acting, planning, realism, etc.

i wish they had more fighting, viper/raider dogfights are sweet to watch.

by the way, for any fans of the series, definitely check out "Beyond the red line"

it is a standalone BSG game built on the open source FS2 engine.
