Do you guys also not enjoy the turn based, traditional D&D RPGs?

I am liking RPGs such as Dungeon Siege more so than Neverwinter Nights, for example. I tried Baldur's Gate, but it wasn't it for me. For some reason, these games that have the official rules and guidelines aren't doing it for me. Maybe if I learn these things I'll enjoy them.

I tried Morrowind, same thing. I'll try Morrowind again, though. I like Zelda type and Dungeon Siege RPGs. Maybe its because I have not played many RPGs. I mainly play strategy, shooters and some other genres.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Fallout series

Thats about the only turn-based RPG I played that I can think of, but other examples of kick-@$$ turn-based games in general:

Civilization I & II
Alpha Centauri
X-com UFO Defense & Terror from the Deep
Kings of Bounty & HOMM 1 & 2 & 3

I much prefer the old-school, party of 6, turn-based, step 10 feet style of games ala The Wizardry, Might & Magic and Bard's Tale series. They were games where you really had to think about party development, think about choosing the right mix of skills, think about the proper ratio of brawn and magic, make choices on what equipment to carry and go into combat with an eye for proper tactics. "What spells work best on this monster, can I afford the spell points, should the thief hide or backstab, will by fighters get toasted if I don't disable the enemy spellcasters in the first round, etc. RPGs took a giant step backwards when computers finally had enough horsepower to do real-time combat. They turned into Diablo and Dungeon Siege clickfests rather than games of thought, strategy and tactics. Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale got pretty close to the right balance of modern technology with old-school characteristics. I think they erred a little on the clicky side though. You could pause and issue new orders, but that just wasn't the same. I would have loved to see a Baldur's Gate style game done in true turn-based. Stop, you issue orders for you party, then in fights out in front of you for a turn, issue new orders and watch the combat for another turn, etc. That would have been cool.

I enjoy both but lean a little towards turn based ones mainly my reflexes arn't that good and the constant mad clicking probably isn't helping my RSI :p

Icewind Dale series was good. Pools of Radiance was also pretty decent, just never got into it that much. I always did like things like the Heroes of Might and Magic Series though (unfortunately, they are releasing the next one with StarForce at the moment so I doubt I will picking that one up.), but that isn't really a D&D game as compared to the first two I listed.

I am a hands on adventure gamer ex. Zelda. I like to do more than just pick a spell and atk and wait my turn. Although there are many turned based games that really are good to get into. Ex. FF series or golden sun for gba.
The worst game ive ever played is probrably FF Crystal Chronicles. Probrably because you do not really get much out of the game unless you have someone to play the game with everyday. One player sucks big time.
They should have made that an online game then it would have had some more potential.
Anyway im going on...well thats it.

I loved the BG series and I would love to see another one of those with better graphics. While ES4:eek:blivion is really really pretty, it just doesn't capture the BG feel. Although I'm only level 2 right now. But I miss being able to command several NPC's in my party and having true D&D style character development. Oblivion doesn't allow that kind of character customization. Not that Oblivion is bad, but I like to roll my character stats and choose spells and what not for them to memorize.
