Do you go to the doctor if you have a cold lasting more than 2 weeks? (Inspired by sitting on toilet seat thread)

Uhm...if your "cold" lasts longer than 4-5 days and you haven't gone to the doctor....it's probably a good idea.

if it lasts more than a week, it isn't a cold
probably a sinus infection or something worse than a cold

Well it was my chest (coughing, coughing up the dark green stuff, etc) but it's now just subsiding after 15 days and I've only coughed 3 times today and all the crap coming out is clear now.
My ribs still hurt from coughing though ;) Like someone punched me........ And no, I don't have a cracked rib!

You could have had a weak case of pnemonia.

Which...penmonia could kill you ya know. Fill up your lungs with liquid.

Do you get a cold the same time of year every year? If so, it's probably caused by allergies.

Nah, it varies....... Sore thoat here, coughing there, headache the next year. Nothing to pinpoint, as it seems normal.

All of the pussies that go to the doctor in a few days are leading us to a Matrix style life in the next couple of generations.

I know this will be far fetched to some of you here. But the reason I'm posting this thread, is that my grandmother just passed away tonight from pneumonia (A stroke about a mth earlier did'nt help any). My brother called to tell me the news earlier this evening.

Just got me thinking is all.

Condolences.
Pneumonia is often a "secondary" illness that many elderly wind up dying from.

I get colds once in a great while, and never go to the doc. Why go in, sit in the waiting room for 4 hours, see the medical assistant for 10 minutes. Wait another hour or so. See the doc for 30 seconds for him to tell me to drink plenty of fluids.

Then again, i never have a cold for more than a few days. As it stands now, i have no insurance, so i would have to be near death before i'd see a doc.

I got one now, and I enjoy feeling like sh1t. It's a good change up, plus I get to spit up all kinds of good stuff. What the purpose of the sinuses, they just seem like awhole lot of trouble. You'd think we could invent something that would take the place of them.

I got one in the beginning of October, it never went away, turned into some bad GI / chest / fever stuff. Two months and several courses of antiobotics and many visits with an infectious disease specialist and I'm just now starting to feel better.

So yes, go to the doctor.

If it's longer than a week and it hasn't dwindled to the occasional cough here and there by the end of that week, then yes. 2 weeks, definitely go see a doctor. It could be bronchitis or pneumonia, or it could just be a particularly bad cold virus. I would definitely say go to the doctor.

If it gets into my chest, I'll hit up the doc for some cough syrup with codeine.

All other symptoms and I'll just tough it out.

>Going to the doctor for a cold remedy is.........

Where is the poll option for, "stupid because a cold is a virus."
