edit: new question:

are AP test credits counted as transfer credits or ones earned at the home institution?

Depends on the college. I got credits for mine but they wouldn't count towards major requirements.

Depends on college and score.

For getting a 4 on AP Lit, I got 8 elective credits here. But at another college you get 4 credits AND it removes part of a GE.

Yeah I dug a little and it looks like you get 8 quarter points for each test. Which is not bad.

Actually it could be kind do bad - do these scores count as transfer grades or grades earned at the home institution. I have a problem where I have earned too many credits and they will not longer to them for transfer.

They do not count towards your GPA. They are just credits which enable you to have an earlier enrollment window.
