Do you get a meal on your flight?

A friend is arguing with me about this...he insists I should be getting a hot meal on a cross-country flight, and I tell him that they don't do that anymore....just a drink and a bag of peanuts or chips.

What was the last flight you were on and did you get a meal? Coach class only

A 6 hour flight? I would think you should... wouldn't be a deal breaker though if not. Just bring something with you or *gasp* don't eat for 6 hours.

I'd go with something that you know wont make you get the sudden urge for a hershey squirt explosion. That way you won't have to unexpectedly rush to the airplane bathroom, you see that there is a 3 person line, and the lady in the back of the line tells you the bathroom's current occupant has been in there for 20 minutes.

Depends on the airline and flight duration, but most of the time coach passengers do not get meals. Now, if it is an International Flight -- or even certain flights to HI or AK he could possibly get a meal. Southwest never gives meals. Most airlines have really restricted their food, so likely he will be getting a snack basket.

I rarely pay attention because I only care about meals when flying Internationally. Otherwise I just eat at the airport. Twice I've gotten a meal on LGA/ATL, and it is only 1522 miles which falls outside of Delta's 1550 requirement for a meal in First.

depends on the airline.

I always try not to eat anything on flights, though, cause I'd really hate to have to take a crap in that cramped airplane bathroom.

On an intercontinental flight you'll probably get TWO meals, or at least one meal and one large snack. If you're in first class they feed you nonstop... that's enjoyable

Cross-country I haven't had any meals lately

i would rather get food from the terminal and take it on the plane than eat the food served... nevertheless... most airlines usually just give drinks and some will give a small snack bag...

the last time we got a meal in coach was back in 2004. Last year my mom got a meal on united at the end of may in coach.
2 months ago, we only got fed in first class... on the way back, just a baggie of pretzels and soda. you can buy food though.

I ask because I have only flown JetBlue and United in the past couple years....when I was a kid we always went on United but my dad used his FF miles from work to get business class, so there was a meal. As soon as I got to experience coach i was like WTF no meal??

The last time I was on JetBlue was on a 2 hour flight and the woman sitting next to me managed to somehow get this HUGE grilled chicken salad that practically took her the whole flight to eat. and I'm just eating a small bag of animal crackers. i wanted to punch her in the face....probably cost a fortune for that just wait 2 damn hours

I recently flew American Airlines and United coach and only got served a drink. You could buy a muffin for like $5 or something. If I'm on business i get something if i'm really hungry and then expense it. if there is time i try and grab something from the terminal.

The flight I was just on.. Sunday night.. You didnt even get pretzels/peanuts.. The only thing they gave for free is the drinks... All food you have to buy now. I always pack my own snacks now.

I remember back in the day, you'd always get meals. I remember flying from Kansas City to Philly, and we got breakfast.

Then they knocked it down to a bag of honey roasted peanuts. Then just regular peanuts. Then those crappy mini pretzel things. Finally, the last flight I was on..we got nothing.

It's the little things in life that make it count...🙂

Cross-country I haven't had any meals lately

The gluttony that you have described sickens me.

last weekend i flew to sweden from newark. i got 2 meals, dinner and breakfast, and a snack.

on the way back i had a short flight from sweden to amsterdam and i got a small meal on that flight too.

amsterdam back to newark i got a snack and dinner.

the airlines were SAS, KLM and Northwest. so for those airlines you are wrong.

I've flown a lot the last few years (within the cont. US) and for flights <3hrs (or thereabouts) all the airlines I've been on have cut food service (Delta/Song, JetBlue, USAIR, American, etc).

Delta doesn't even have '1st class' anymore (for the routes I've been on). For a while they had the bigger seats up front w/ no other perks. Recently, they've changed that to be the same seats as the rest of the plane you just get to board/depart (Zone1) quicker.

Anyway, there's food at all the airports so you can eat before the flight. Most folks can make it 3+hrs without having to eat, and if you can't you can always bring your own food on board and annoy your fellow passengers with it's aromatic goodness.

/While I've flown a lot, I do not cover every route on every plane on every airline, so, the above is just my experience but seems to match the general trend. You can always call the airline to see if they have a food service on the flight you are taking. It's possible that if you are flying from , say, 10a-1p they might have a lunchbox or something still.

i just flew American cross country, Tampa --> San Francisco...

We got drinks on one leg, and drinks and peanuts on the other... it sucked.

They did offer us a $5 snackbox, but when we found out all it had was a picked sausage and cheese and crackers, we passed.

it really sucks how you dont get meals anymore. if the flying time coincides with a meal, a meal should be provided. i just got back from china, 13 hr flight and only 2 meals. wtf. i was so hungry the entire time.
