I've never been to one, but I assume you have to watch out for those evil script kiddies...

i don't care. really.

i always keep my machine under something protective, and let it go. my machine is public domain, unless i specifically need to use it for something (counterstrike, anyone? :) if someone spills something into the keyboard, big fvckin deal. i have about 9 or 10 at home. my mouse is optical, so only heavy slamming can do it harm (i -would- intervene if i saw this, btw). apart from that, anything goes. no problems yet..

however, my perception would probably be different in a HUGE lan environment (100+ people), where i didn't know everyone.

Nah, my PC is nothing special. If I get the job I'm tryin' for it might be a different story, though...

VapoChill with one of Steve's TBirds + a GF3? Touch that & you die.

Heh...bring your backup computer if you have one.
If not, replace your hard drive with a backup hard
drive with a clean format so that you won't have
to worry about viruses or anything (except for those
BIOS viruses). In that case, lockup your BIOS so
that no updates can be made to it. I don't know
if you can do this on every motherboard though.

Just load up all the software you need at the LAN
party on that empty hard drive before you go.

Personally, I wouldn't go through all that trouble.
The LAN parties I go to are normally just my close
friends that are computer-knowledgeable, so I don't
worry. I haven't been to a large LAN party before,
though.

Same here.

I've never been to one with more the 10 or so people. Usually all that I knew or have spoken with online.

If I went to a large LAN, I'd probably use a smaller HD that only had the stuff on it for the party and keep my good HD with all my stuff at home. You lose the HD at the party, big deal. Just wipe it and start again.

Lan Partys kick ASS! If you have never been to one you should get some friends together and have one! All you need is a Networking Card in each computer, hub and cables. And of course a cool game to play like Counter-Strike,Tribes, Quake! Damn just thinking about it gives me a woody! ;) Im about due for another LAN party myself. Everyones invited and its BYOB! :D

BTW...If anyone touchs my PC you will be banned from BuckMaster's Lan Party! hehehe

I haven't really worried about it too much. I've been to at least a dozen LAN parties. The largest one was in SAn Francisco. I believe Gamespy supported the party(i think...or maybe it was heat.net) There were about 150 people there. I actually went up on saturday, left my pc overnight and came back on sunday. Proly a stupid thing to do but nothing happened. I wouldn't do it again. I'll be attending a 300 person lan party soon here in Sacramento at CAl Expo. A local organization is putting it on called Lantrocity. Should be fun!
