for the shy geeks out there, it might be good practice to flirt with women whenever you get the chance. it'll make it more comfortable when you're actually trying to talk to a girl you like. of course, flirting could mean being friendly, playful, and conversational, not necessarily hitting on them.

Getting the guy to talk about himself, letting him know I like his looks/ideas/whatever, letting him know I'm interested in him and only him. Most of that's communicated non-verbally, and that's where the misunderstandings happen. Just because I'm interested in whatever topic we're discussing, doesn't mean I'm flirting with you.

Anyway, at the risk of sounding like a pig, I will pretty much mildly flirt with any girl I'd be willing to sleep with. I don't know if I'd say that that's the same as girls I'm "attracted" to. I'm willing to sleep with girls based on their looks, I'm attracted to girls based on their looks AND their intelligence.

OK, after reading that, it's clear I am a pig, but hey, at least I'm not a liar and I have no illusions. That's good for something, right?

I joke around with them as an icebreaker and I could see how that would be construed as flirting, but I usually don't consciously flirt with girls unless I've known them for a little while or they are really easy to talk to. I don't even know how you would define flirting, though.

Here's something you need to know as a girl. If you listen to what a guy has to say and seem to be paying the slightest bit of attention, then he thinks you are flirting with him. If you smile or laugh or hold a glance for too long, then he's just wondering to himself if he should offer you a drawer in his dresser right now or start a YAGT about you first.

No, I don't go out of my way to flirt with all members of the opposite sex. Most of them are either married, farther away then I want them to be, or attention whores. Why would I want to flirt with a girl that I've never met as opposed to going outside and flirting with one in person?

I'm married and I go out of my way to do the opposite of flirting. I'm overtly dismissive of all women even when being flirted with. I probably come off as an anti-social cold-hearted jerk but I don't mind......mostly because I sort of am.
